onestly I think the Nets are the frontrunner for him and not us.

    1. Denver doesn't want to keep Melo in the West, they want to send him in the east where they'll only see him 2 times a year.

    2. Brooklyn is a major market like NY, and its also Melo's hometown. Both him and his wife will be happy there.

    3. Favors alone trumps whatever assets we can give for Melo, esp. if the Nets absorb all of Melo's salary and the Nuggs don't get even expiring contracts in return.

If were the Nuggs and Melo I'd consider the Nets before us.

First, let's let the meeting with the new GM happen. Then if they do realize that Melo is serious and verbally states himself to the Nuggets GM that no matter what, he wants out which is the assumed obvious direction.

This situation is going to go through so many updates... He's going here, he's going there, he's staying, he's leaving, he's on NY only, he's ok with here. This team will offer this, nevermind they will no include him or that.

Until a deal is in place and a sports writer wants to break it where the words "Melo to Houston" are involved, I am just going to focus on what we got.

And that is good right now. How good? Won't know but the collection of players with Houston/Rockets on the front of their jersey each night is going to be an enjoyable product if healthy.

Why is it that everyone on this board talks about Favors like he's the second coming of Lebron. He hasn't played one game in the NBA and was the 3rd pick. Do I have to list the #3 picks that have been busts? We have multiple likely lottery picks to offer that could easily wind up being better than Favors. What's the big deal?!

    1. Denver is going to do what's best for them. No matter which conference he is traded to. They want the best collection of players in return..

    2. Actually, he was born in Brooklyn just like I was... He calls Baltimore home, like I call Houston my home.

    3. Favors probably will be the best piece offered if you are basing things on potential. But Denver is going to want some known/slightly proven talent too. However, the second part of your statement is false. They don't have cap room just to absorb Melo's contract. Harris and others or Murphy will have to be included.

If he goes to the Nets, I predict them to continue to be perennial losers and he will become Baron Davis II (barely better).

I never understood this. What difference does it make whether they see their ex player 2 or 4 times a year?

Why do people refer to Melo's wife as a celebrity? She's a wannabe at best

Chance of seeing him in the playoffs are greater. He'll have a chip on his shoulder then (I hope).

Ha, I'm sure the Nuggets aren't worried about that. They're rebuilding, they're not worried about the playoffs at the moment. Years down the road, it doesn't really matter, business is business.

This is how I've always felt. The whole notion of "Team X won't trade player Y to another team in the same conference" seems ludicrous when Team X is basically flushing its chances as a contender in the next half decade down the toilet.

Denver will go for cap space, picks and young, cheap talent (as in guys 25 and under). I think the Rockets can offer the best combination without gutting the roster to the point that they can't contend even with Anthony joining the team.

Hard to believe - the Nuggets were arguably one player away from being WC champions if not this last season, def the season before last. I thought their offer of 65M/3 yrs to Melo was a good sign they didn't want to rebuild.

Is it safe to say their management is screwing things up? Or is this just Melo-drama?

the way things are going with the Houston Rockets and GM, we may end up not getting Carmelo Anthony to join our team. if this is the case, then who should the Rockets go after next in order to help improve our team. it would be cool if we can sign a veteran player that can play good defense and can attack the basket. also it would be nice to have someone who can shoot from the perimeter. anyway, hope the organization will do something soon.

(long sigh)... This offseason seems longer than anyone I can remember.

How many speculation threads can there be?? I mean yeah I understand all the love for Melo, I would love to have him on the Rockets. But come on now, NOTHING has been accomplished yet. I mean technically Melo hasn't even come out yet and clearly ask for a trade..

This reminds me a lot of the Bosh situation. Everybody jizzed in their pants at the possibility of Bosh coming to Houston. Yeah how'd that work out? All Houston got was their hopes crushed by him joining forces in Miami.

Im not trying to be a "debbie downer", but I mean come on, be realistic. Don't get your hopes up high only for them to be crushed...

I think there's a lot more to be said about the old axiom that you don't make a trade that will improve a division rival. In general, I think that holds true. We can all probably think of some exceptions (the Scola deal), but some of those were driven by luxury tax issues, with the rivalry second.

    1. Of course you want the best collection of players in return but you've got to be kidding yourself if trading Melo to a possible contender in the West doesn't factor in their decisions. Can you imagine the PR hit the Nuggs FO will get if they trade us Melo, we meet them in the playoffs and we eliminate them on the way to a ring? The Spurs FO got a beating when we stole Scola from them, and these guys are considered the best in the business.

    2. Ok fine you got me there. However the fact still stands that as far as markets go, Brooklyn is a much better prospect than Houston. Melo will be happy in Houston, but will his wife be? From articles we see that 1 reason why Melo wants to leave is so his wife will get more $$$ opportunities.

    3. If you're rebuilding (as other people mentioned) its better to get the top lottery talent in Favors than a combination of Hill, PP and C-bud. If they package Favors along with Troy Murphy you get that "proven talent" you're talking about as well as an expiring deal to save them some $$$.

    Murphy's expiring contract+Favors> Martin, Hill and C-bud.

We could add the NY picks to tilt it in our favor, however IMHO Martin+the NY picks is already too much for Melo.

For the Nets it makes sense because they have a hole in SF and Melo will give the Nyets some noise and hype. Losing Favors sucks (because IMHO he's a better building block than Lopez), but you get a core of Melo, Lopez and Harris.

How often are NBA players home?
Houston has the best trading options, with enough talent left to still compete for a title/with Melo. In addition, besides Amare. NY is a better city than Houston, but in regards to basketball it's a joke, and I don't know if Melo and Amare pair is getting out the East.
Just buy a place in New York, and spend all your time there, when not need be in Houston.

But, I do believe that even if he doesn't join the Rox, the team will still be making a run for a ring.
