When do you think Yao will play Shaq strictly 1 on 1?

The proper question is not "When" but "Why."

Yao himself has said that anyone who wants to guard Shaq one on one is very stupid. I think Shaq is being stupid in insisting on guarding Yao one on one.

Maybe when he's a little slower and more of his muscle turns to flab ... like when he's been in the league 15+ years and is on his last leg.

There's no way Yao should play Shaq 1-on-1. What's the point? We want to contain Shaq as much as possible, not give him a green light.

Hopefully never. Not even Yao's bulk is enough bulk to deal with the Big Aristotle one on one.

JVG play to win, he's not coaching to see who (Yao or Shaq) is dominating. It's right to double Shaq and make him think twice everytime. If you don't double him, he's not going to think twice about what he does and that means making it easy for him. But as a coach, you got to messed his mind up a little bit, even if Yao is able to handle him one on one. Still you want to mess with his mental just to throw him off. Coach Phil Jackson playing it cool and clearly didn't do that, and his team lost as a result

IMO,Yao can do it on offence, but he should never do it on defence.

Shaq and Yao are definitely different playerstyle.
Shaq has an instinct for dominance.he can use his body, his elbow, his foul language to dominant in the paint. but Yao looks more like a team player.he usually exerts his utmost all kinds of skill against opponents.

as yao said,"If what he said is never, that's never, thats the fact!"

    Yao cannt guard Shaq 1-on-1.

However, if they use shaq guard Ym 1-on-1, Lakers will lose again

who the heck cares! yao's IQ is too high to care. this is bball, 5 on 5. if shaq insists on playing yao 1 on 1, fine, rox will win again. that's all we care.
