If you truly believe this, then we are so far in our opinions that a discussion on the subject probably benefits our typing dexerity more than our minds. I am not sure what you are observing, but from my vantage point it's a team that doesn't pass the ball or move without it, doesn't play the Pnr very well, is clueless on how to run a fastbreak (could someone...anyone...Calvin...please tell the primary ball handler to get to the middle of the court?), and is very poor (or very late ) at defensive rotations when they double team. Other than the lucky bouncing ping pong balls, what has been done to improve? (OK..OK..at the beginning of each half, they run some nice sets...and then?).
Off topic but - Living in Austin I love Thomas's game...but he is about the same size as Eduardo Najera and that's just about what his pro game will equate to.
I have a question. If we do make a change (trade or change coach), how long do you give the new coach or the new group of players? Isn't it being a bit stupid to write off this group of players and its coach now when they are only together for half a season?
If we make a coaching change, we have to assume that we're NOT going to make the playoffs. If we get a really good player (Brand, Gasol) for anyone but Steve and Ming, and there's no coaching change, we can raise our playoff hopes. If we have a trade in which we move 3 or 4 players, while switching Steve to SG, then no playoffs.
Somethign just hit me: Everyone keeps saying how it's stupid to make a coaching change now but, if we're not going to make the playoffs (the way it's looking), then maybe it's better to get a new head coach now so he can be here for 20+ games and evaluate everyone and then can make the trades we need in the summer. this way, he has a head start on getting comfortable and teaching his concepts.
Enough of the your famous quote. This has gone beyond wins and loses - WE DO NOT HAVE A "TEAM", period. And if by accident we do, they certainly are not playing basketball out there. I cannot be fooled by their fake disguise. It is simply pathetic. The good news is that Rockets will be here long after the purging.
You say you are not sure what I am observing. I will tell you. I am observing games against the Timberwolves in which we stomp the hell out of them, playing team ball all the while. This team has shown, time and again this season, that it has the ability, and the knowledge, of how to play winning basketball. They just get lackadaisical against the poor teams, and tend to lose focus. But okay, let's go ahead and assume we are so far apart on this that neither will convince the other of anything. There is still the part of my post where I questioned how many coaches these poor teams went through before they found the coaches you listed above (which, as I mentioned earlier, have still proven nothing as far as winning big games or playoff type contests). If we fire Rudy to look for someone else, we might find the best coach for this team right away...but odds are not in our favor. I just don't want to see us go through the kind of constant change that these other teams go through. If you really think Rudy is completely incapable of getting this team to the playoffs or farther, then I guess you have resigned yourself to the need to go through that kind of trouble to find the right coach for this team. I don't think we are such dire straits yet. If we don't make the playoffs this year, and the team closes out the year playing poorly and seeming to digress, then I might be prepared for a change...but if we continue on about this pace and just barely finish out of the playoffs, I think I would still stick with Rudy.
no, we need to make trades. but the problem is no other teams want the players we wanted to get rid off. don't you want to trade moT? and no, trading moT or glenn rice is not a panic trade.
What if we win say our next 2 games, then we are still out of playoffs right? Winning 27 games is not accident, just like losing 24 games. How do you explain those wins against Kings, Spurs and Pacers? I am refering to the core of our team (Yao, Francis, EG and Mobley). I don't think we should make trades for them. Of course if we can somehow get good players for our overpaid role players like Mo or Rice, I am all for it. But some trade suggestions here (like EG and Mobley for some overpaid old men) are getting ridiculous.
I am pretty sure thats like trading chocolate for water. Nobody is that stupid. If you want somebody good, you have to trade somebody good. None of the GMs are shmucks that just go by what ESPN tells em (See proof in Yao).
So is it safe to assume that if we lost 5 out of the next 6 games, that it's better for the team if Rudy "resigns" from his position?
The season is over. Trade now, bring in your team to take the new arena. Hire Larry Brown now; have him take over as soon as the season ends. Ask him who to trade. Give Rudy a gold watch. Thanks, RT. By-ee. Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. P.S. Larry Brown is in serious play right now. Everyone knows it. This is his last go round. 5 year deal, then he retires. Should get a ring (or two) with Yao.
