Here's the mistake that a lot of people like you who claim that it's easy to replace a player of Yao's caliber using the cap-room created by getting rid of Yao (notwithstanding the fact that you got trolled by CH). There's pretty widespread consensus that, outside of Detroit 2004, the best way to get a championship is to have at least one superstar (preferably 2 or more). In a market where superstars are underpaid relative to their contributions toward winning a championship due to salary caps, superstars have disproportionate bargaining power vis-a-vis teams as to where they get to play. Superstars dictate where they want to play, not teams.

The question then becomes, where do superstars want to play? In places with a high chance of winning in a market with other positive externalities (like a big fanbase such as the Lakers or Celtics). Some markets, like Houston, are less desirable so it makes attracting superstars that much more difficult--as we found this summer w/ Bosh (I don't consider him a superstar, but the market treated him as such). One reason we were able to land t-mac at the height of his career was because we had Yao--he wanted to play w/ a dominant big-man. The existing players on a team become a selling point for superstars. Some teams, like the Nets or Knicks, have such bad teams already that superstars don't want to move there because they know it'll mean rebuilding. Even though they cleared cap-space, they didn't land the players they wanted. LBJ and Bosh would rather play w/ Wade than scrubs like Devin Harris. Most teams in smaller markets acquire superstars through the lottery (like Tim Duncan or Hakeem or Yao or LBJ). So simply dumping Yao doesn't mean we'll be able to upgrade the team.

Yao, when he is healthy is a highly valuable contract (even beyond his impact in China) because he anchors the defense and commands a double team on offense. Very few players have that impact. The probability of replacing a player that can do what Yao does is really low through free-agency in a market like Houston. That's why Morey and Les have decided to go all in this year and go into the luxury tax, because they know that this is as good a chance as they have to making a deep run. It's a gamble that rests on Yao's health, but next year, if his health or play isn't where it needs to be, they can move in a different direction. But for now, this is the best chance for having a player of his magnitude needed to win a championship. Not to mention the fact that the whole team has been crafted with each piece in complement to each other and Yao. If we take out the centerpiece, it completely disrupts the concept that Morey built this team for.

Hmmm...on second thought, maybe I was unfair to T-Mac the PERSON. I don't know what kind of person he is in private life. He might be a good father and husband and brother and son so I retract this personal criticism of T-Mac, who I really do not know.

But based on their public comments, I think Yao the person is a lot more admirable and likeable than T-Mac, based on their public comments.

I don't think this is ban material, especially for someone who has been a member for awhile, but it is mildly r****ded.

No one wants Yao to get injured. I don't even want to think about it. We've been through it too many times, and I feel for the guy as a person, even though he disappoints me as a fan sometimes.

At least we have some depth to help out at this point.

I wouldn't advise you holding your breath waiting for a reply.

I understand why this thread was started, but it is pretty damn dumb.
All you guys that hate this realize you are keeping it on the front page by replying, right? If you all held your posts, it probably would have fell off to the second page hours ago.

I hope that if it happens that it happens soon. I chose the wrong option, but for his sake, I hope it happens soon if it's going to happen again. I don't want to see him ending his career with persistent leg problems only to get older and feel pain his whole life. Godspeed Yao, Godspeed....

I wish they would trade yao,but i wouldnt ever wish him to get injured. Do i think his value is overblown by his fans? Yes. Do i want him to be pushed before giving him a new deal? Yes. Do i think he might go down again?Yes.

If Yao breaks down by then, their are some good free agent big men available in 2011.

Heres a list that Morey could pursue.

    Perkins
    Horford
    Noah
    Chandler
    Collison
    Oden
    Pryzbilla
