Unlike the f'king Saudi's and other dictators around the world hiding their assets in the U.S. under the guise of "sovereign immunity", what exactly are U.S. government assets overseas?

Earlier this week, US officials warned that Gulf states could arm the Syrian opposition with anti-aircraft missiles. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one US official told Reuters that Saudi Arabia or Turkey may agree to supply man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) – considered to be a threat to low-flying aircraft – to opposition groups in Syria.

The Saudis have always thought that the way to get the Russians to back off [in Syria] is what worked in Afghanistan 30 years ago – negating their air power by giving MANPADS to the Mujahideen,” the source was cited as saying.

Jasta will be a great news for the Syrian rebel, US veto on arming them is no longer a concen

I am sure the US has done things worse than 9/11 but would you mind refreshing my memory? Trail of tears comes to my head first.

Ehh at least that was during war time and trying to finish the war off. Plus they attacked us first.

Yeah but they intentionally targeted a civilian population in order to terrorize the enemy into surrender. I mean, that makes it essentially the same thing as 9/11 only with a LOT more victims. Then again that was back in an age where war was war and people essentially understood that. These days it's a bunch of children who seemingly understand nothing getting triggered right and left.

In recent memory over a million Iraqi citizens have died from our invasion alone in the early 2000s. Numbers differ as low as 500,000 war related casualties but can you imagine how livid Americans would be if a foreign nation went onto our soil and killed a million U.S. non-military citizens while saying they're making our country more stable and safer?

LOL those are insanely exaggerated numbers to the point where it's not fit for anything more than propaganda. Anyway, just another sign that people have forgotten what true atrocities look like.

Yea I don't think the dead care so much about how large the number is. Low estimates are 150,000. Most recent estimates from the latest study are at 500,000. Point is even at 150,000 that's a pretty significant number. Again we blow our gaskets at over 3,000 Americans dying from a terrorist attack in NYC. Imagine if 150,000 Americans died instead. I'd think our nation would be even more livid.

Mitch McConnell blames Obama because Republicans overrode his veto without knowing the consequences of the law they were voting for. That sounds about right. We're ignorant and it's your fault Obama, the story of the Republican Congress.

Lawmakers Fret Over Sept. 11 Bill a Day After Veto Override

Less than a day after voting to override President Obama's veto of a bill that would allow 9/11 families to sue Saudi Arabia, senior lawmakers expressed concerns Thursday over possible "unintended consequences" to the country's national security and foreign policy.

After a historic and overwhelming rejection of the presidential veto, Republican leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives opened the door to fixing the bill's potential impact on national security.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., said Congress might have to fix the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) to protect U.S. troops in particular.

Ryan did not give a time frame, but Republican Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he thought JASTA could be addressed in Congress' "lame-duck" session after the Nov. 8 election.

The new law grants an exception to the legal principle of sovereign immunity in cases of terrorism on U.S. soil, clearing the way for lawsuits by the families of victims of the attacks seeking damages from the Saudi government.

Riyadh denies longstanding suspicions that it backed the hijackers who attacked the United States in 2001. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals.

White House Spokesmen Josh Earnest dismissed Congress' attempt to blame the Administration for what he described as "rapid onset buyer's remorse."

"Within minutes of casting their vote to put that bill into law you had members of the U.S. Senate write a letter expressing deep concern about the potential impact of the bill they just passed," Earnest said Thursday.

He went on to list a series of letters by former CIA officials, national security advisors, and European attorneys warning about the potential impact of the bill.

"Ignorance is not an excuse, particularly when it comes to our national security and the safety and security of our diplomats and service members," he said.

Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said that the White House should have reached out early on to prevent a vote and later on a override to the bill.

"By the time everybody seemed to focus on the potential consequences (of the bill), members had already basically taken position," McConnell said.

"Everybody was aware about who the potential beneficiaries were, but nobody really focused on the potential downside in terms of international relationships," he said.

Trent Lott, a former Republican Senate Majority Leader who now lobbies in Washington for Saudis, said attorneys would look carefully at JASTA's language.

"I do feel passionately this is a mistake for a variety of reasons, in terms of threats to troops, diplomats, sovereignty, there's serious problems here. Hopefully we can find a way to change the tenor of this," Lott said.

Sure, but there were that many Iraqi civilian deaths due to the Hussein government and they allowed that to continue....so yeah, when you allow a dictatorship, you might suffer as a result. It's simply not a valid comparison to the US. Millions of German civilians died during and after WW2 too...I mean, that's just what happens when a population allows their government to get that out of control.
