I disagree. He played a major role in our championships, and, according to Jerry West, Horry was "the third most valuble player in the playoffs." ------------------ The best is yet to come. Go Rockets!
Hey Dakota, I would rather have a Shaq or Mourning like center than a Jump Shooting center, wouldnt you? The fact is that we didnt need Jason Collier. We needed either a PF or a SF at the time. Cato is our center for the future. He doesnt clog the middle. Thats what pissed me off about getting Collier. Why didnt rudy get a Sf instead? ------------------ Starting at shortstop, for the Houston Astros, Nomar Garciaparra. or Starting at First Base, for the Boston Red Sox, Jeff Bagwell!!!
I take it you haven't watched Collier play very much. This guy is about the exact opposite from clogging the lane. Sure, he has some post moves and can score from down low, but actually will probably play a role mostly to unclog the lane, as he has the outside shooting touch that can bring he and his defender out of the lane, making room for Steve and Cat to penetrate. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Nomar, Yes, I would rather have Shaq or Mourning, but neither one of them was on the board at the number 9 pick, in fact, no one in this draft is close to those two. Given that, I will take Rudy's choice, and believe that he knows a bit more about basketball then me...just a bit though... DaDakota ------------------ All you MO-FO's better stop ripping off my lines !!
The Cat-I'll take Pryz's rebounding in preseason NBA games over Collier's rebounding prowess against guys he was 3-4 inches taller than... Thank you very much, play again... I don't know why you are questioning Pryzbilla's rebounding and defensive skills, that is why he was a Top 10 pick and why Collier wasn't... Pryzbilla averaged 8.4 boards in 30 mins last year... Which would equate to at least 10 boards a game if he played NBA minutes... In conference games, Pryzbilla averaged 11.2 in 33.5 mins... http://www.gophersports.com/Sports/stattemplate.asp?stat_id=57&Ac_Yr=2000-2001&sport_id=mBasket ------------------ [This message has been edited by kidrock8 (edited October 17, 2000).] [This message has been edited by kidrock8 (edited October 17, 2000).]
And I'll take Pig Miller's rebounding in regular season games over Pryzbilla's in the preseason. If you use that line of rationale to say Pryzbilla is better than Collier, then you must do the same when comparing Pig Miller to Pryzbilla. So is Pig better than Joel? ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Tell me Pig's reb's per minute... Also, tell me if Pig can play more than 30 mins without fouling out, or collapsing... Desperate times call for desperate measures huh? ------------------
And Collier averaged the same minutes and got over 9 rebounds, which would equate to also over 10 if he played NBA minutes. Pryzbilla was considered to have better potential at being a defensive presence, which is why he was top 10. Also, considering the lack of centers these days, almost anyone with that large a body that has at least some potential will go top 10. Pryzbilla has potential- I'll give you that. But he has not reached it in any capacity, and there's no way after 3 preseason games you can judge that he is/will be better than Collier. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Pig averaged .346 rebounds per minute. And to my knowledge, Pryzbilla hasn't played 30 minutes in an NBA game and not fouled out either. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Can Pig Miller block shots too? In addition, I'm not basing my whole Pryz vs. Collier just on the 3 games... I've felt this way since June... I guess we can only see... ------------------ [This message has been edited by kidrock8 (edited October 17, 2000).]
Of the 3 rockets who get consistently bashed on this board...Wiz, KT, and Collier... only one is deserving... Collier reeks of stench-ridden garbage...this guy has zero game and should be advised not to suit up for any home games this year or run the risk of getting booed by fans at Compaq Center....He makes McIlvaine look like an all-star. ------------------
Doc-I guarantee by the end of this season, Pryz will have more blocked shots than Pig has had in his entire career... ------------------
The Cat, What's with all these new people that keep bashing the players? This site is getting old real fast with all the negativity. Where have all the veteran posters gone? I used to enjoy reading their intelligent posts with true insight into the teams chances & direction. Have they gotten tired of this crap also? I keep reading your posts defending the players, but I'm begining to think you are just wasting your time. You can't win an argument with a rock. Oh well, I'm outta here. ------------------
and even if we could get rid of the guy who would want him.....???? ------------------ "Wahooo"-homer
Let me try to stake out a moderate opinion here. Collier was a mistake at the #15, in my opinion... I think I've been perfectly clear on that. However, here's no reason to give up on him as worthless just yet. I think he *could* be a decent backup center... I just think we could have got him in the 2nd round, and should have taken someone else at #15. DaDakota is right... a jump shooting center opens up the lane for Francis. We don't want the Shaq's and Mourning's of the world swatting the ball away from our guards as they painfully crash to the floor. But... Collier has yet to have a *single good game*... either at the RMR, or in the pre-season. If he had even had *one game* where he showed potential, I'd be much more optimistic. The guy has *no defense*, and his shot isn't quite NBA 3pt range. I think there's still hope for him getting a shot... but at this point, I think he's earned our skepticism. If he can average 6pts and 4 boards this year, I'll be satisfied, as my expectations are already pretty limited. ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
Who cares if Collier can draw out Shaq from the lane if Shaq's gonna dunk on him 20 times and jump over him for 20 boards? If Rudy is pinning his hopes of neutralizing Shaq's defense on Collier then I'm really, really scared about the upcoming season. I would rather have Bullard try to guard Shaq than Collier. ------------------
The intent is twofold: 1. This makes Shaq play defense peremeter defense, and shoudl wear him out a bit. 2. It clears the lanes for our guards. That said, I think the primarily problem with Collier is his lack of defensive skills. However, if he can learn to hold his ground against the bigger guys by muscling up a bit, and taking lessons from KT regarding footwork... *shrug*... who knows. It worked fairly well for Indiana (yes, they lots... but it was a good series). ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
Kidrock Im with you on this one. Collier sucks and people don't want to face that. If a guy has potential you can see it in 3gms. But this dude is weak, slow, can't jump, fat, and unathletic. When Rudy saw he couldn't draft DerMarr Johnson or Darius Miles he should have traded that pick to whoever would take them.
