It is called sarcasm (my original post). Also, I don't think irony means what you think it means. I believe the word you were looking for was projection, specifically psychological projection. FYI - An everyday idiom for psychological projection is "The pot calling the kettle black." Keep that in mind for next time, you would have so gotten me!
