The offseason is not over. In fact it's just starting. If you've listened to Morey at all, he explains that he expects to sign 1 possibly 2 free agent vets to step in and contribute right away. He also says that we will be exploring any and every trade that would make our team better and expects to make a trade by the trade deadline, maybe even by training camp, to better set us up for the playoffs.

Morey has also stated that CDR is not a good fit for Adelman's system AT ALL. He says He can't create his own shot and with the way he shoots, he would NOT get away with it in our system.

Dorsey gives us an attitude and toughness that this team has been lacking. He plays taller than he is and our staff saw him as the best rebounder (offensive and defensive) in the nation as well as the best defender on the best defensive team.

And no, I don't think Deandre Jordan would be a better backup C than Dorsey. Maybe 5 years from now, but even that isn't exactly "likely" yet.

Morey value the FA market so much more than the 25th picks we have, and he knows he cannot get someone that could help us right away at the SG/SF spot with the picks we have, so he is targeting the SG/SF through the FA market. It's obvious to me that one of our 3 servicable PF is going to be moved if Dorsey lives up with the expections. It will be either Chuck or Landry, which I hate to see either of them go..

    I am happy with Dorsey.

Greene was the guy I predicted we'd pick with the 25.

Certainly has a lot to work on but has all the tools.

You keep saying we "traded away Arthur." I thought we picked him so we could complete the deal Morey ended up making. I don't think the Rocks ever intended to keep Arthur, IMO.

For anyone seriously upset that we went with Dorsey over DeAndre Jordan, let me say that I played against DeAndre for three years in high school and he never struck me or any of my teammates as being anything other than a seven footer. My team (featuring a bunch of 5'10'' - 6'2'' white kids) managed to beat his team by 20-something his junior year. I don't want a player like that on the Rockets. As much as I would like to see him succeed so I could tell people I played against that NBA player in high school, I would be absolutely shocked if he ever became a rotational player in the NBA. That's just my personal opinion, for what it's worth.

i understand your pain. we're stuck with luther head as our backup two. dont be too down. hopefully we trade him this summer. we'll be all smiles if we get rid of luther and dorsey turns out to be a beast.

I was at the Rockets luncheon at Toyota Center today and met Dorsey and his mother. A super nice guy, and yes, he is a BEAST.

forget the comparisons of dorsey to hayes/landry or other potential draft prospects. he brings one thing the rockets sorely lack.

    attitude.

i havent seen grit and fire since the days of elie and cassell bringing their heart to the floor and providing that attitude that allows superstars to play even better. i believe the rockets are widely regarded as a soft team. yao and tmac are soft as well as adelmans coaching style. dorsey will hopefully change that perception the moment he gets on the floor. and those who watched memphis games last year know that his presence is a game-changing.

watching the celtics vs the lakers showed exactly why we need dorsey. heart and toughness dominated.

    props to morey.

I think the bold part is a very good point. I like the idea of having Dorsey play D against some of the better PF's and Centers in the league.

Can he rotate out of the paint and defend against the mid-range shot too?

I understand the thinking of drafting SIZE as in HEIGHT but at the end of the day, if you can play, you can play. I know alot of people bash the guys on our roster for being UNDERSIZED but the truth is these guys along with Dorsey can play. They all have SIZE as in BULK rather than height and have proven to be productive time and time again. We don't need a stud at every position, just guys that produce on the court and these guys do that. I don't think I'm being biast here either. These guys can and have held their own with guys of all SIZE around the league and I would say other teams have noticed. I was a bit surprised we drafted Dorsey but I like the pick. Physically he reminds me of Anthony Mason with that type of mean streak, but overall more like Ben Wallace as far as rebounding and defense. Four power forwards on the roster so it seems like just the beginning to me of an interesting off season.

I agree. also watching the lakers v celtics series and the celtics postseason run in general, the effectiveness of having tough big men like kendrick perkins, leon powe and pj brown also stood out. Especially, perkins his massive size alone shows how effective a massive body like his can contribute to winning.

He brings some swagger to the team, that is what has been missing. Too many nice guys, Dorsey is the type of player that this team needed a long time ago.

Size and success are just part of the profile. The main part of what Morey does is create a profile for a certain type of SUCCESSFUL NBA player. There are many factors, size and college success are most likely two. But if you hadn't noticed, many drafted players fit what would seem to be the NBA profile and still fail. Why? That is where Morey's supposed genius is. He is supposed to be able to pick up on and determine, not through the obvious statistics necessarily, who will succeed on the next level based on what they have produced in the past. Determining success can be a numbers game, but that depends on looking at the right numbers. He's supposed to be very good at it and hopefully the Rockets give him a long enough tenure to accurately determine his success rate.

I do not watch college basketbal so I never know any player before they play in the NBA. Therefore I have no idea who will be good. But I have confidence in Morey. I mean look at last year, people complained about the Landry pick, and that worked out. Give the guys a chance.

I think it will all depend on the improvement of landry. I definitely see hayes being gone. We just don't need him anymore. If Dorsey is the enforcer I think he can be... then great. If he is mean... then great! Barkley got it done.. Rodman got it done.... Wallace got it done... heck i am wililng to say hayes got it done. These players realized they weren't up to height with the rest but that is what gave them the drive to prove them all wrong. Hayes though just had too many limitations. After watching this man's video's I don't see him manning too much of the center position but I do see him as a vital back up at pf. He looks tough. He looks mean. He has a swagger and he definitely has something to prove. He's going to be the guy who holds the amare's wears down the duncan's and bruise the hell out of a guy like boozer. I can't wait to see this guy just throw one down on these players. This guy has BALLS and from the video the sense of urgency. Morey has brought us some good players in the draft. Probably better than the ones he brought in via free agency. I trust his judgement in potential. I see a block buster trade coming along very very very soon.
