I wasn't a big fan of that either. Don't get me wrong, I love Chuck's hustle and heart but I would rather have somebody that matches the opponents size while matching Chuck's other attributes with a little added offense. I know that no player was available with those credentials that is NBA-ready but I am still unsure on the Dorsey pick. Hopefully, he pans out. He's a Rocket now so I'll be rooting for him. :)

We were undersized outside of Yao. See post yao injury.

Deandre Jordan? He didn't even start late in the season for a mediocre college team. Great athlete, horrible shooter, saw him airball 3 or 4 FREE THROWS during games. (I film all home men's basketball games at a&m.). He is a good defender and exciting to watch, but thats about it.

Joey Dorsey has the attitude and size to really be dominant on defense and the boards in the NBA. I would compare Joey Dorsey a lot to Ben Wallace, and recently that might not sound great, but I remember watching Detroit's defense scare people with Big Ben controlling the paint.

As for Greene, if a lot of you remember correctly, coming out of high school he was often times compared to be on McGrady's talent level. He has the size and athleticism, his shot isn't great, but neither is McGrady's at times. Maybe with a little tutoring by McGrady himself this guy can fill in for T Mac and give us a little offense off the bench. This pick has more upside than anyone else I could see us getting at that position, but I will agree with all of you, it is a risk.

A lot of you expected us to make a huge move this offseason... why? We were doing just fine at the end of hte season without our best player. Our concern is to stay healthy, its not like we are in the lottery and needed to add another superstar in order to make a run in the playoffs. If we would have beaten the Jazz, we would have easily beaten the Lakers in my opinion (even without Yao). But I am not going to play the what if game... my point is we aren't that far from being a championship team, what we need to win a championship was already sitting inside of the locker room this past season.

he has a 7'2 wingspan and a 8'11 standing reach. yeah he is only 6'7 but the guy plays much bigger.

I'm not convinced, but I'll trust the team, who obviously know a lot more than me. But, I'm concerned that a guy so devoid of offensive game cannot stay on the floor. It'll be a challenge for him to develop an NBA game if he struggles to find playing time. Also, despite people's objections, I don't see how he'll be any better than Chuck Hayes. Chuck's strengths are rebounding and defense, just like Dorsey, plus it sounds like his offense is marginally better and he has experience and has proven himself. I will grant that Dorsey may be a better option to play center.

On playing time, it seems right now we'll have Yao, Mutombo and Woods at center and Scola, Landry, and Hayes at power forward. Woods and Hayes already were looking at only spot minutes. Is there any room for Dorsey at all?

juan this isn't hard, he's chuck hayes with athleticism, a much better option than chuck. I like chuck, but dorsey will bring shot blocking and finishing at the basket

That's assuming they Woods, Hayes, and even Harris are kept then there is always the possibility of losing Landry to free agency. There could definitely be some minutes for him.

I would have liked me some DeAndre Jordan just because I went to A&M.

I don't think he will be much more than a Stromile Swift type player.

It gives the Rockets leverage in their contract discussions with Landry. Also insurance if they can't agree to terms.

Exactly what we need; a project who has the touch of an iceberg slamming into the Titanic.

As I said in another thread last night, he sounds alot like Chuck to me. Hopefully he will bring the athleticism that Chuck does not possess.

I find it odd that everyone is still crying about not drafting CDR. The fact that he fell as far as he did should tell you there is a big red flag issue on this guy. Collectively, every GM in the league passing on him holds more weight than any evaluation from even the most astute of BBS posters.

Dosey brings that edge that we have not had since Bobby Sura. The Donta Greene pick we will have to see I am not sure how he is going to work out. Greene is not a SG, so are we bringing Gerald Green back? I think out off season is incomplete at this point as we have not addressed all of our needs yet.

I do like the draft as I looked at it this way. We could have drafted Greene straight off. We got dorsey and a pick and the guy we wanted? If that is really the case then we really did something good.

Why would we pick Dorsey? Toughness. Attitude. Enforcer. He will not score much if at all but he did well againist, Greg Oden, Kevin Love, Roy Hibbert all guys drafted ahead of him. The biggest advantage that Amare, J O'neal, Bynum, Howard have over Yao is Lateral quickness Dorsey addresses that. Would you rather have Joey Dorsey or Luther Head? Both undersized, both one dimensional, both lower picks, and both bringing something to the team.

The one thing about Dorsey is can he be an in system player. We will have to see but I like the pick.

I forgive him. Especially since Morey wasn't the GM when that trade occurred :p .

Dorsey is reported as 6'7 to 6'9. He's a bit undersized as a PF, no where near a backup C. IMHO, he will have hard time to break into rotation since Scola, Landry and Chuck are all solid role-player.
I think picking Dorsey will give pressure on Landry to sign a more reasonable contract.
We had a similar situation last year. Chuck didn't sign a cheap contract untill Landry was drafted in the early 2nd round.

Dorsey has a unique set of size and athleticism, those are the types of players that come along once in a while.

He is stronger than an ox and quick as a cat....think Charles Barkley or Ben Wallace....in terms of size and athleticism....this guy is like that.

He is going to have a long career in the NBA because of all of that and his mean streak.

Great pick......and it should allow Yao to be on the bench for longer stretches......

Great pick, so we can now get rid of the Chuck Wagon.
