Don't care about Mavs or Clips.

But I am convinced the owners will not allow the moratorium to be conducted like it currently is with the next CBA.

Can you imagine what would happen if an owner reneged on a player contract after agreeing with him during the moratorium period? The players association would throw a fit. Think about it. Cuban has an agreement with Wes Matthews. Sacramento has already committed their cap space. They could only give Wes $5-8 million. What if Cuban decided to renege on his verbal agreement with Wes? Well, you say Wes can go back to Portland. They'll take him back. What if they don't? What if they've moved on? Now the player is left standing in a game of musical chairs. NBAPA wouldn't put up with that.

And the owners aren't either. The moratorium will be changed with the next CBA. There either won't be a moratorium. Or there will be a moratorium with contracts signed that are binding while allowing teams the ability to stack up and process transactions at the conclusion of the moratorium in a fashion that best suits them. One way or another it's gonna change.

Instead of eliminating the moratorium, I bet it would be easier to either move it up prior to the start of free agency (likely) or move the start of free agency to after the moratorium ends (less likely).

    It has a purpose, folks

    1) What DeAndre did is messed up. I remember how pissed I was after Bosh re-signed with Miami, so I can only imagine what Mavs fans are feeling right now.

    2) I can't help but laugh at the Mavericks as an organization. After how things went down with Parsons last offseason, it feels good to see them humiliated and on the brink of starting over.

    3) The media are definitely gonna give DeAndre (and the Clippers) a pass on this. They shat all over Dwight for being indecisive (which he wasn't), but since DeAndre decided to back to L.A., they won't care at all about this last minute flip-flop.

The Clippers do get their C back but other than that I don't see them being that much better. Paul Pierce? Good pick up but he's old and I don't see him being a reason that they are just sooooo much better.

    This hurts the Rockets, imo.

but the sheer entertainment I got from all of this was worth it.

pretty significant upgrade for a win now team replacing a matt barnes with a championship experienced versatile player. he may be old but is still more than capable of holding his own especially being a #3-4 option. not a fan of lance stephenson but him coming off the bench makes them deeper.

I always thought teams relied overmuch on these verbal agreements. Much like your defensive set isn't done until you get the rebound, the negotiation isn't done until the contract is signed. Teams know or should know they open themselves to risk by relying on verbal agreements to make subsequent decisions. And, I'd say that the purpose of the moratorium is to accommodate situations like Jordan's -- teams and players get to see the big picture of who goes where before they make final commitments. If the Mavs reneged on Matthews as a result, I wouldn't have any problem with that either -- they see how things are slated to shake out and have a chance to tweak their strategy.

As for what it does for the Rockets -- of course it preserves the Clippers as a threat. But, if the Clippers beat us in the playoffs next year, I won't blame it on Jordan flip-flopping; I'll blame it on Morey and the Rockets for not doing more to get better. We already know we need to get better to compete with the Warriors, Spurs, and Cavs. If the Clippers with Jordan are good enough to beat us, we aren't winning the championship anyway.

I hope Rockets does not face Clips or Spurs in the playoffs. The joke is on the Rockets.

It's so funny working w/ DJ's uncle while all of this is going on. DJ does a good job of keeping in touch with his family and has said that he felt alot of pressure. Feels bad about backing out even though he hadn't signed anything, and his uncle thinks all fans talking s*** just don't know how big of a decision it is for a young man (I agree). It's just cool to be listening to Cowherd talk about it while sitting next to someone so close to DJ. I was saying if he wants a championship then he made the right choice, but his uncle said in his mind it's all about the financial aspect. Not sure of the contract numbers, but that's just what he said.

I dont hate the Mavericks. The only thing is they showed how poor winners they were, when they were winning.

Take the Spurs, everyone respects them, because they show a certain level of class when they are winning. They go about their business in a good effective way.

The Dallas fans have taken on the personality of a Mark Cuban. They are abrassive, rude, and eliteists. So when stuff like this happens, a person knows that the Mavericks were wronged. But the Mavericks have made themselves to unpleasant, it is hard to sympathise with them.

I guess Cuban's act has grown tiresome, because it seems the only high priced freeagent he's gotten was Parson. And Parson is an above average player, but not worth the max yet.
