Sucks that Dickerson never got a chance to pan out he was playing really well until his injuries made him retire. He was definently starting to blossom and play well.
there isn't going to be a true point guard on this team....or at least i think so. jvg is putting a team together that will compliment tmac and yao. he just needs head to bring the ball down and give it tmac. they will run the screen and roll to death with tmac and yao, and in any case of doubles, the ball will be kicked out to the perimeter. if head can shoot a good percentage, he will do fine on this team. all that will be asked is for head to bring the ball down, shoot when open, find the open lane, look for a pass from tmac or yao and play D. play hardnosed D. but for people thinking head is going to be a true point dishing out assist, he isn't going to have the ball long enough to do that. our offense goes through tmac.
i think head will become a taller and more athletic version of david wesley really. he's a very good shooter and good defender. not a natural PG but can play the position sparingly and be a solid starter at the 2. however, now that we have him, we have to get rid of either one or two of the following guards: barry, wesley or sura. i'd love for us to keep james as a backup at PG because he brings energy, speed, and solid D. any of those other guys are expendible with head now.
awards/accolades: - Runner up to Bogut for ROY! - all star rookie game MVP (might loose it to Bogut) - honourable mention for NBA "all defense" team - top 5 in spg more seriously, i expect him to start out as our 6th man playing at least 15 mpg for us, before making the starting 5 after the all star game break & getting up to 25mpg. shoot low 40% from the 3, averages ~ 10ppg & 5apg. I have high hopes for him (as i do all Rox players)
if he really doesn't miss a open 3 pointer like someone mentioned, he should shoot in the 45%-50% range in 3pt shots.
i dont see where you guys get off saying this guy is not a true or natural point guard. he's played point before. he's gotten 9 assists in 3 different games his senior year playing out of point. if he's not a natural point guard then what is your definition of a natural point guard?
I agreed with you that we can't make a judgement on whether Luther Head can play the point without seeing him in action actually playing as a PG. My instinct is that he will be a good PG with the added benefits of good shooting and defense.
Rodrick Rhodes John Turner Bryce Drew Derrick Chivous Mirsad Turcan Bostjan Nachbar i think more of a Rodrcik Rhodes. Since looking at that list and after watching Rockets pick Rodney McCray over the GLide, and pass on Rashard Lewis three times, i have absolutely no confidence in their scouting. I'll be happy with a ROdrick Rhodes.
I think my expectations completeley depend on how many of our signed players we intend (or want) to keep. I'm not sure he'll even make the roster now that NBDL is an option and JVG is leery about rookies, much less one that's a 1/2 tweener. Still I like this guys game.
Not sure if this comparison has been made or not, but Luther Head's game reminds me of Eddie House. My expectations are in-line with House's performance, which hasn't been at super-star levels but has been nice for a role player.
Luther Head skillwise and physically sounds a lot like Ben Gordon. At 6'3" , athletic and a 39" vertical with 3-point shooting capabilities it sounds a lot like Ben. I think the only reason Head wasn't getting too much hype was because he came from a team with a few other stars.
Whoa nelly. I like Head - but Ben Gordon was the best wing player in the nation his last two years in college, it didn't seem anyone could stop him except Royal Ivey. Head's a talented player, but he has question marks about his ability to transition to the pros - which is why he went 24th - and not top five like Gordon.
It did help that Ben Gordon got to play along side Emeka Okafor. His last year he averged 18.5 pts and shot 43% from 3. All of his physical numbers are exactly like Luther Head's. Ben too was an undersized 2/ inexperienced point guard but in Chicago they let him do what he was best at and that was shoot and score. I watch every UConn game and Ben was great when he was there but I'm just saying that the write ups on Luther Head are exactly how Ben was portrayed in college. Did you know that he was never an All-American? I think Luther Head was a Second Team All-American.
dude - roderick rhodes was an athlete - but could not shoot (the whole Jerryl Sassar mold) head is a shooter first- if you can shoot a jump shot, there is a place for you in the league
