If I had it all over to do again I would have challenged myself more in high school and college instead of just trying to get by. I could have taken a lot better courses than Bowling 101 (yes, I did) in college. I got a minor in recreation. While it was more involved than it sounds, and quite time consuming, it was a waste. I wish I had taken a minor in art of some sort. I also wish computers would have been more advanced than in my day.
Same here, but I don't think I would make as much. My second option is pursue my 8th grade dream of being the lead singer and keyboard player for 'Varsity' (That was the cheesy name of the band).
Professional rock star. I'da practiced drinking heavily earlier in my high school career. I would have DEFINITELY sought out some heroin and some cocaine. I'da lived in a sh!thole with a bunch of dirty guys, eating stale pizza and drinking brews we lifted from the local convenience store. And right about now I'd be planning our reunion tour (the 3rd one).
I'm with Batman (I guess that makes me Robin ) that I am pretty much doing what I want. Since I work for a small business and am a part owner I have a lot of flexibility to work on different things and to pursue different opportunities. If I was doing something else I'm not sure I would have that. Like Batman Jones though I would like more money out of it and also some more consistency. The biggest problem with my job is that its either feast or famine. I'm either working so much I don't sleep or else I'm spending an inordinate time posting on the BBS.
I would love to own a fleet of Bayboats and charter bay fishing trips as well as Captaining whenever I wanted. I would also love to restore/modify Mustangs.
I have a couple of ideas. First would be a Las Vegas casino executive. Actually this could be a very possible career for me down the road. I was on the phone with the CFO of a LV casino a couple of weeks ago. Eventually I'll leave the world of consulting and this sounds like fun. Second would be some kind of Matthew Bourne style international agent/commando. I speak 3 languages and could handle something like this, either in a European or Latin American setting, preferably. I think I could kick more azz than Matt Damon, though, for sure. How the heck did he ever get the job?? EDIT: Falcons Talons- good idea on the boating idea. I'm an active boater myself and that idea would be a lot of fun. I'd probably lead more beer drinking, relaxing type expeditions, however, as opposed to fishing-based trips.
Wow....maybe I should really try to pursue this one day! Any idea how long one has to go to school to become a pharmacist? I think it's around 6 years, but it could be longer. I think I have enough hours to technically be a junior, but I was a music major, so basically I would have to start over from scratch (minus some of the basics).
I believe it is right about 4 years after college i believe if i am not mistaken. 2 of my friends are pharmacists 1 is in pharmacy school and my sis applied but didn't get in and she is in graduate programs now doing research. In Houston the starting salary of a Pharmacist is right about 90K Go anywhere else your easily talking 6 figures. They has been a shortage for a while. My friends kept getting better and better offers from each pharmacy to leave one and come to the other. One of them was working for walgreens and krogers came and kept giving him higher and higher offers to leave with signing bonus and 3 weeks paid vacation off the top for the first year. Not only that they get paid hourly and they dont mind if they work overtime...they sometimes encourage it which makes them have just a sick amount of money at the end of the week...i saw it first hand...When they were making like $90 something an hour it was pretty crazy lol.
I usually look at my dream job as being the thing i would do if i ever won $500 million dollars. you guys might wanna chop the unrealistic ones of the top...but this is my top 10 - if money had nothing to do with it and i could just do what i wanted to do: 1) Own an NBA team OR be the GM. 2) Coach an NHL team. 2) Own or Manage a Casino. 3) Professional Gambler - would need more money than i have now to actually go into this. 4) Writer. 5) Own a sports bar. 6) Full time movie/book critic. 7) Own a motel/surfshop/internet cafe on the beach (australia/europe/or latin america). 8) Marketing Director - where i'd get to make commercials and sell a top of the line product. 9) Own a restaurant in Vancouver/Los Angeles/or Denver. 10) Sit on my ass and make top 10 lists.
Yeah, I just looked it up. Sounds like 2 years of pre-pharmacy courses, then 5 years to get the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Plus an internship after that. Your sister didn't get in to pharmacy school? That's scary.....I've heard it's very difficult to get in to. Does she just have to wait a while and try again or what?
Yeah they have really made it a lot harder to get in because everyone and their mother was trying to get into it cause of the money and they really try to weed people out. Few years ago anyone could get in but now it's a different story. Yeah my sis had 3.8 with a good score on her tests and didn't get in...they based it on the fact that she took her first 2 years in HCC instead of a bigger university which is totally BS.... You can only apply each year for pharmacy school. They have one session that starts like each fall i believe where she can apply again. Which i think she is doing not only here but in California as well.
Did your sister apply to pharmacy school in Houston? I hear that TSU isn't that hard to get into, relatively speaking. Since your sister had a 3.8 in college, maybe TSU is a school that she should consider. Pharmacy school is like med school in the sense that it doesn't matter where you go to school. As long as you finish, you will find a job with competitive pay. If pharmacy is something she really wants to do, I would encourage her to apply there, if she hasn't already.
