crawfish Ragin' Cajun' Tex Mex Ninfa's burger Chili's seafood Goode Co. BBQ Luthers crab Joe's Crabshack steak Outback
Well, theres a Goode Company Barbecue on Kirby and 59. There is also a Goode Company Seafood and Taqueria/Hamburgers right across the street. I got to go with Romanos on westgrey. It is imo the best "casual" italian out there.
I've never eaten anything good at Friday's - their drinks are good though. Chili's for the ribs Chuy's for fajitas China Border for Chinese buffet Chacho's for mexican a la carte Black Eyed Pea for chicken fried steak
try these : Jax Grill - S. Rice at Bissonnet : Good salads, chicken or fajita Ruggles Cafe Bakery : Good Salads, great desserts, great pork loin sandwich You've got several votes for Mai's - open late, also try Van Loc (more intimate) or even better - try Tau Bay - Bellaire or in the Hoa Binh center - very good, excellent Pho, with meat on side. Thai Spice - there's thai spice express on Bellaire - cheap and quick counter service - or the buffet in the Village is good. I also like some things at Nit Noi. Nice, comfortable place. Niko Niko's! Too bad it's always so crowded. Gyros rock. Mmm...greek salad. Cali sandwich on Travis, or Givrals Fu's Garden has dependable american style Chinese, or try Sinh Sinh on Bellaire at the Beltway - open late - till 3am or so. Subway - underrated. Good fresh food. Not for sitting down, though. The menu is pretty good at Brazil. Or Empire Cafe. Ok, not great. Benji's is pretty good on Sun. But not so casual. IHOP has some pretty good food. the Richmond La Tapatia is pretty good. Or Taqueria Arandas is dependable. I'm not a fan of Goode Company. It's pretty blah.
Niko Niko's Sinh Sinh Katz's Deli - I just ate there yesterday. I'm going back every week until I try everything on the menu. The sandwiches are awesome.
If you like it, note that there is an off-the-menu version called a Combo Reuben. That's the best one, imo. It is half Corned Beef and half Hot Pastrami. They have the best CB and Hot Pastrami in town--freshly steamed per sandwich. But that Hot Pastrami is a weee bit too rich to eat a whole sandwich without cutting it with some corned beef.
Thanks HeyP. I haven't been there in a while. I can only take heart-attacks-on-a-plate once in a blue moon, but next time I am there, I will check out your suggestion. The other thing I like about Kahn's is Mike Kahn's huge collection of Coca-cola memorabilia. I used to eat at Alfred's all the time when I was a kid, and Mike is doing his father's memory righteous justice with Kahn's.
There's also a Jax on Shepard just South of I-10 right before Washington. There's also a Chinese Cafe on 290 on the in bound side int the former K-Mart Parking lot. And I agree with Riet, some of the best casual Chinese food in Houston.
I keep a list of restaurants in my car because I often have trouble selecting a place to eat. I actually have a "casual" category on that list. Here are the entries: Ferrago's (could pass for formal on the weekends) Cafe Adobe Star Pizza Teotihuacan Ninfa's Two Rows Taco Milagro Cafe Express Chuy's Hungry's Bibas (Ones a Meal) Colina's Chilis Fuddruckers
I forgot about Fuddruckers being one of my favorites and seeing the places mentioned makes me realize I need to eat out at new places more often...
