ive had my share of trippy experiences of 'small world', mainly because koreans in the US are so connected in one way or another, but this one has to top them all off... when i was a sophomore in high school(around 1999) i met anna from colorado along with her older sister from one of my buddies. this was in korea where i went to an american school. my buddy who went to a different american school lived near me and we hung out alot so thats how i met his cousins who came in town. turns out anna has a twin still back in the states named hanna.. but hanna was taking summer school somewhere and couldn't make it out to korea that year.. anna happens to be the 'good' twin and hanna was the 'bad' one.. basically hanna's parents wouldn't let her join her sisters to hang out in korea.. anyway later on that same summer along with my family we toured several boarding schools in the US (one in rhode island, one in massachusetts, and one in arizona) i would attend for my junior year.. while on tour at the school in massachussets, which happens to be in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE somewhere in the FORESTs atleast an hour away from boston.. i see a pretty cute girl with blonde highlights walking around. we made eye contact and she kept staring my way.. she kinda stayed within proximity and i guess we were 'feelin' eachother out ionoo.. i thought she looked really familiar anyway i asked the tour guide who she was and i ended up talking to her.. YUP turns out it is HANNA!!!!!! we both couldn't believe it...... its also important to note, all of these schools are not typical boarding schools but rather reform schools... from talking to her it turns out she would be attending that school that year and asked me to come as well.. I ended up going to arizona however(all boys school, i hated it).. anyways thats my story........... @$*!&@# CRAZY...................... oh how about this one... i used to live in flushing, new york in Queens growing up.. i was there for seven years until right before 7th grade at which time i moved to korea with the fam... i kept in touch with most of my friends back home for couple years then slowly lost touch.. one year, i recall it was right before highschool, i went back to ny to visit some family and we went out to eat at a Sizzler (on northern boulevard).. we pull in the parking lot and i see this kid sitting ontop of the wall outside(kinda like a fence) keep staring at me.. i stared back and we were both kinda mean mugging eachothe... i got out of the car and turns out it was one of my best friends... we both couldn't beleive it... we exchanged contacts and until this day we remain good friends... we see eachother atleast once a year usually when i go back to ny... CRAZY stufff
Just remembered another one. A terrible tornado tore through downtown Waco in 1953, killing 114 people including my ex-girlfriend's grandfather who was killed in a pool hall where he and a friend had taken shelter. My uncle helped remove all the bodies from that same pool hall.
When I was a kid, I was in Cub Scouts. One day, my mom invited our den mother over for coffee. Over the course of conversation, my mom mentioned that her first husband (my dad) served in the Air Force in Kotzebue (sp?) Alaska. Turned out that this lady's husband had been my dad's room mate in Alaska.
In '92, I was stationed in Heidelberg. A bunch of friends and I went out to celebrate Fasching (German Mardi Gras) and met a couple of American college students on Spring Break. They were exchange students living in Rome. We hung out that night and we put them up for the night at the gasthaus on post. They left the next day. Fast forward 3 years. I'm now stationed at Ft. Meade, MD and working a second job waiting tables. Get to be really good friends with a co-worker. One day she says some friends from college are coming down to visit. Turns out one of her friends was one of the girls I met 3 years earlier in Heidelberg.
My son spent the Fall semester abroad in Spain. He ran into one of his little girl friends from nursery school.
I had a one night stand with a girl from a club here in Houston one night.... no big deal... until I saw her about 1 year later at a family reunion.
