I don't really see what others see in Polk, he's pretty good catching the ball, but he hesitates too much when he gets the handoff and it often leads to him getting nothing. To me Hilliard is just about as good at being a receiver and he doesn't have those issues when he's taking the handoff. I mean, I like him in Hard Knocks, I just don't see what he brings that others don't.
I have. It doesn't matter though when goes on his rants because the page will be filled with blocked out posts. Anyway, I was just asking for a link. Carry on.
Until the ignore list will allow you to not see quoted posts, it's useless. The jackass has to dominate every single thread he participates in with his takes that make Skip Bayless look Albert ****ing Einstein.
Anyway, if we're done with children desperately trying to derail the thread, let's get back on topic.
Both have been running behind crappy OLine play, so it's difficult to evaluate...but in the preseason, Hilliard rushed 48 times for 2.48 ypc and Polk rushed 38 times for 2.92 ypc. Both numbers are poor (and that's mostly due to poor blocking), but hesitation or not, Polk is still doing it better than Hilliard. None of these RBs are really that great...but, given our offense and the limitations of our QBs, I prefer having RBs that are better out of the backfield. Polk finds space very well and gets open. Last night, he was targeted 4 times and ended up with 4 receptions for 37 yards....while Hilliard was targeted 8 times, but only ended up with receptions on half of those plays for 16 total yards. Therefore, I dont see Hilliard even close to being the receiver that Polk is, purely because Polk seems to find the holes in the defense a lot better...and that's pretty much one of the main factors that makes an RB a good 3rd down back.
I'd still rather they just sign Thomas and give him the extra $500,000 or so that he wants, but if they aren't going to sign someone and they'll just roll with a bunch of scrubs that work hard in practice, at least keep Polk who can be a receiving weapon. I'd be calling around the league today to see if anyone wants to dump a RB for a low pick or a linebacker or something before they cut them. Montee Ball maybe? Same thing on offensive line.
That's fair, but in that Polk is a 3 year vet, I just feel like he should look better than he does. When it comes to Hilliard being targeted 8 times but only making 4 receptions, it has a lot to do with bad passes. A lot of Savages throws where nowhere close, it wasn't Hilliard dropping them. Even then I agree that being a receiver is what Polk does best so maybe the talk should be about Polk or Grimes instead of Polk or Hilliard since they really are different types of runners.
My predictions: QB: Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, Tom Savage WR: DeAndre Hopkins, Nate Washington, Cecil Shorts, Jaelen Strong, Keith Mumphery, Chandler Worthy RB: Arian Foster, Alfred Blue, Chris Polk, Jonathan Grimes TE: C.J. Fiedorowicz, Garrett Graham, Ryan Griffin OT: Duane Brown, Derek Newton, Chris Clark OG: Xavier Su’a-Filo, Brandon Brooks, Jeff Adams C: Ben Jones, James Ferentz DEFENSE DE: J.J. Watt, Jared Crick, Jeoffrey Pagan, Tevita Finau NT: Vince Wilfork, Louis Nix III, Christian Covington OLB: Whitney Mercilus, Jadeveon Clowney, John Simon, Kourtnei Brown ILB: Brian Cushing, Mike Mohamed, Benardrick McKinney, Akeem Dent, Justin Tuggle CB: Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Kevin Johnson, Darryl Morris, A.J. Bouye, Charles James S: Rahim Moore, Andre Hal, Lonnie Ballentine, Quintin Demps PK: Randy Bullock P: Shane Lechler LS: Jonathan Weeks
Regardless of who is the one that'll be on the outside looking in...it will suck to witness it on Hard Knocks. justtxyank, I totally agree about Thomas...he can run and receive, and would be the 2nd best RB on the roster behind Foster.
Darnell Dockett got released. I'd be interested if he's looking to sign somewhere cheap. A DLine rotation of Crick/Wilfork/Watt/Covington/Crockett would beastly.
Yeah, that's a real added dimension this season. Having to see the guys get cut is rough, especially those that you end up pulling for due to watching them on Hard Knocks. I really hope Charles James makes the team, but I kind of doubt it.
There's gotta be something there, he gets picked up by the niners this off-season, a team that is struggling for depth, and they cut him? I know there was talk about a rib injury, but there has to be more to it.
I liked Ballentine better but he's just been injured a lot. I can see either Pleasant or Ballentine being switchable though
All reports from camp are that Pleasant has basically won the starting safety job next to Moore and that Demps will likely be the 3rd safety on the field ahead of Hal. Can't see Pleasant getting cut, even though I've never been a big fan. We are thin at safety in view.
