The reason most people are not seeing Polk make the team is because Grimes offers exactly what he does and has shown more. Grimes and Blue are also being treated much differently than Polk and Hilliard. They aren't taking as many snaps, and are working with the 1st team only or primary backups. While Polk and Hilliard are predominantly working with our worst players at o-line. The playing calling alone shows who the team favors, in thats Blue being our starter and Grimes backing him up. You don't want another guy on the team that's basically identical to Grimes. Polk wanted out of Philly because they're choosing to go RB by committee. He wants to be "the guy". Him coming here never made any sense to that desire, because he was going to always be at the very most, our 3rd RB with Foster healthy. With Foster being healthy, our 3rd RB will only ever touch the field as a STer and in possible WR roles. Grimes has shown much more in those areas. Foster is more than likely back by game 5. I don't waste a roster space on a RB who isn't playing ST, and isn't going to touch the field because Foster does EVERYTHING better than him. Foster, Blue, Grimes are all your 3 different change of pace backs, with Polk being like Grimes in ways, but Grimes contributes elsewhere on the team. I pick Hilliard to make the roster purely on the fact that he is easily moved down to the practice squad once Foster is back. I like Hilliard better for the future, I like him being kept in the Texans org so he can continue to grow in this system. He's a power back that we can definitely use. Polk isn't here long term under any circumstances. Philly didn't fight to keep him for a reason. He's all hype with very little production.
Thinking I should change my Bollough pick to Tuggle. I'd actually take both of them over Dent however.
Too little too late, he's WAY down the depth chart. His only hope is that he did enough that some other team is willing to take a flier on him so that his NFL career isn't over.

I think Bullough will be cut for and we pick up late cut vet that can play inside and out. I think we will pick up a late cut vet for the O-line. We are thin thin thin. I would like to see us pick up a vet RB. None of these guys has separated and I would like a third down pass catching/speed back. A vet with one year left in him. Maybe they keep Demaris for that, The D-line looks badass. I really like the DB's, the guys that had to come in last year played well, Chris James was a Hard Knocks novelty. I think Hilliard looks awful personally and I hope the Texans cut him, but I don't think they will. The RB stable as a whole is dreadful. A bunch of scrubs. Blue is scrubby, Grimes is a little better than Blue and Polk is the most talented in my opinion, but more so as a pass catcher and change of pace guy. It really disappoints me that they didn't sign Pierre Thomas. I hope they reconsider that. The offensive line is weak at LG and below average at C. If a vet gets cut at guard somewhere in the league I hope they'll dump Adams and get the vet. I know they wanted Willie Colon in the offseason. Louis Nix just doesn't look good to me. He's a 3rd round pick so the team probably holds onto him, but I hope they cut him and sign a vet to back up Wilfork. If Tom Savage goes on IR it makes the roster easy in my opinion as that allows them to keep all the CBS plus Ballentine.
See, this is what I dont understand. Does Hilliard offer something that Foster, Blue, and Grimes dont offer? Polk is not only a better running back than Hilliard, but he's also a much better 3rd down back than Hilliard. And Polk didnt come here to be "the guy"...he knows exactly what his role would be on the team, since he's clearly not raised any issues regarding the fact that he's just fighting for a roster spot behind Foster, Blue, and Grimes.
I also disagree that Grimes does exactly what Polk does. Grimes is OK as a pass catcher, but Polk is better. I don't really like anyone of them all that much, but at least Polk gives you that dimension for potential big plays on screens and HB routes. Ideally I'd cut Grimes and Hilliard and sign a veteran to go in there with Blue and Polk.
I've read in other Texans football forums/blogs that Polk is having trouble running between the tackles. There are holes and Polk is missing them, while Grimes is not. When Foster is healthy, having a third down back who block and catch passes is not a great need.
So basically, Grimes and Polk have nothing in common. One can run, while the other isnt as good...and one can catch, while the other isnt as good.
Grimes is a better runner than Polk but Polk is a better weapon and is much quicker. Like I said, I don't really like any of them all that much. They are all somewhere between below average and scrub. The team loves them some Alfred Blue for some reason and I haven't seen anything from him. That said, big part of the problem is the offensive line. Center is average at best and LG is bad. It causes the whole line to struggle.
Exactly. I just don't get why people think they are the same player. To me the duplication is in Blue and Grimes and I think Grimes does everything slightly better than Blue.
By the way, if there is a good active Texans forum, I'd love the link. I hate this place now because of Booby. It makes me mad at myself that I came back, but I wanted to talk Texans. Edit: Just to clarify, I don't hate clutchfans, I love clutchfans! Just hate that Bobby has to dominate the sections I like.
quit your whining, stay or go up to you. just know, if you go bobby wins. Grimes/Polk, both limited but people are forgetting to evaluate blocking. I haven't seen enough in preseason to be clear but I remember Grimes having some issues blocking last year. Maybe we can cut both and find another RB from the other teams cuts.
