Greatest comedic actor of our time? I think so. Glad to see some love for Meatballs. Possibly my favorite. He totally carried that movie.
That got be to thinking, how is it that Bill Murray hasn't won the kennedy center Mark Twain award. It is amazing to me the lack of respect he gets (maybe respect is the wrong word) but Tina Fey gets it, (that's what he said, for swoly). I guess the rest you can't really argue with, but Bill Murray and probably Gene Wilder are my two favorite comics, who rarely got recognized.
Not so amazing, really. From what I've heard, Murray can be abrasive and off-putting to work with. Personality counts in the entertainment biz, and if you're a complete douche, that may (not for certain, but may) prevent you from getting the accolades. Top 5 Murray movies: 1. Groundhog Day 2. Quick Change 3. What About Bob? 4. Scrooged 5. Ghostbusters Honorable mention: Zombieland. Best cameo ever.
It's funny, but a lot of people who are really good at what they do (mostly artists) are like that. It's almost as if they just have no tolerance for people who don't 'get' them. Buddy Rich was a complete ******* to work with. So was James Brown. I get that same feeling with Murray. I heard he and Harold Ramis had a falling out after Groundhog Day. Too bad. What an amazing team they made.
Has no one actually mentioned "Stripes?" even in a top 5? man I feel old. Bill MotherF1cking Murray quite possibly is the greatest Hollywood movie comedian of all time. And he even transcended the comedy genre, to boot. finally found the Jim Jarmusch directed Coffee and Cigarettes cameo scene for Bill Murray. I forgot he was in that. Ugh, now I'm flooded with bad memories of that movie coming back to me. DAMN YOU!
I can't believe no one has mentioned Stripes, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Lost in Translation, or What About Bob. What is wrong with you people???
You're kidding, right? Have you even read the thread? http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6414812&postcount=28 4 of the 5 you listed are in this post alone. And "What About Bob?" is the first post on this page.
It was a joke. Two guys asked how no one could have mentioned movies that were in like half the posts.
holiday movies i have to watch every year: 1.groundhogs day ("like the groundhog phil?") 2.scrooged great movies: 1.ghostbusters Spoiler <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pedA9PYCQJk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> 2.life aquatic 3.zombieland cameo 4.meatballs 5.caddyshack 6.lost in translation 7.stripes
Ghostbusters is probably my least favorite bill murray movie. I watched it when I was 16 because my father's secretary, who I was staying with, rented it. I don't know why it never appealed to me that much.
In no particular order: Lost in Translation Groundhog Day Caddyshack Ghostbusters Rushmore Broken Flowers The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Where the Buffalo Roam Regardless of whether the film is good or not, if Murray is in it, he's good. As others have said, he doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves as an actor.
