We should move Cato back to the bench and start Taylor at PF. Then Cato backs up Ming and Spoon backs up Taylor. We should see Cato taking less jumpers and less time with not post defender in the game.
but when weatherspoon gets the ball about 12 feet out and is WIDE open, you don't go "oh crap... no baskets on this possession."
As much as I like Spoon, I hope that Cato and Motay watch how hard he plays and goes after rebounds. I mean he's a better rebounder than Motay and Motay is 3 inches taller. Very impressed with how he played against Clev. He played Boozer well.
Again, no extreme weaknesses, unlike Cato, but no extreme stregths either, also unlike Cato. If Cato imporves his jumper, he's a serious player. There is no hope of that for CW.
We need more players like spoon who know their roles on the team. MoT is more talented than spoon, but he doesnt know or doesnt want to do this role. Spoon does all the dirty work, he doesnt hog the ball, rebounds, put back. That's bule collar's work, but we need that type of plays. MoT initiates way too many plays, and that shouldnt be his role, because none of our 4 should overshadow the 5 spot.
The difference between spoon and our other pf's is that spoon always could score and rebound. He was a pretty good pf until someone tried to make him a 3 because of Sharone Wright. He is a decent player who can do everything Cato and Taylor can do combined. He doesn't get off the floor like he once did. For the younger guys who don't know, spoon with those long arms and big hands used to dunk on taller players alot. Now he sticks the open jumper and lays the ball up after the sason season, the rockets could possibly leave Taylor unprotected hoping Charlotte takes his contract.
Spoon isn't much in terms of talent but he plays hard and hustles for rebounds...that's all JVG asks of his players, play hard and smart.
Spoon's biggest strength is rebounding. He is short. But when it comes to rebounding, width and strength is more important than height.
Maurice Taylor: signed 8/7/01 for 6 years at $48,750,000 through '07. http://www.dfw.net/~patricia/contracts In other words, a lot.
