law of averages. if you continue to take the open 3, you'll eventually make it (assuming you're putting in the time to practice it since we emphasize it so much)
Here's the coach's answer!!!!!! <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Kevin McHale on Rockets recent struggles with shooting 3's "We aren't heaving boulders..."</p>— Craig Ackerman (@ca_rockets) <a href="https://twitter.com/ca_rockets/statuses/417424448526905344">December 29, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Did you expect anything different, the answer is, they're missing, but people are trying to look too deep into a really simple issue.
By volume yes, but the others are compensating. Like I said, at this point they're not terrible, but not as good as we know they are capable of. And even Harden making effectively 1 of 3 is enough to be a threat and change defenses. I'll panic when the entire team is slumping.
It is hard for me to panic when the Rockets have a 6-2 record against the Southwest, perhaps the toughest division in basketball.
What's the break down of 3's attempted. I gather Harden has the most followed by Garcia, then who? Parsons? Who's next? Bev? Casspi? I have the feeling Lin doesn't take that many but that one game where he shot 15 of them may put his attempts higher.
Exactly. The team has some issues, but alot of it is just learning curve and injury issues. When you're winning at this clip there's no real need to panic over anything like this. The Asik situation concerns me far more than their 3-slump.
In reading through this thread, it seems that a three and D guy would do really well on this team. Bringing our average up just a couple of percentage points would improve our offense appreciatively, and having a lockdown defender on the wing would be a huge help.
Yeah that's the biggest concern, hopefully he gets his knee together before deadline because if not we may stuck with him until the end of his contract if this knee problem continues or leads to surgery. know morey would've gave him to pelicans for Anderson when the trade was on the table if he knew this was coming.
We have a team of average 3 pt shooters, so we shoot about average from 3pt range. If Harden were closer to his career number, we'd be just above average, which is where we should be. If we want to shoot 40% from 3, we have to get 40% three point shooters.
The idea is space and pace. Midrange shooters are easier to cover than 3pt shooters. Did we have better 3pt shooters last year? Not so much. I think teams are wiser to our tactics this year. Teams are guarding the corner 3 and pnr better. Teams are also packing in the paint. Remember DAL's zone? Harden is unable to drive in as much, so there is less drive and kick plays that used to open up a lot of our 3-ball. Guys are impatient on their 3pt shooting. Instead of relying on ball and player movement to free guys up, we tend to panic and just keep jacking them up.
You can't get really get much from McHale. He keeps what coaches are really thinking close to his chest. Sampson is the one who's more open.
We have better spacing when our PF is making defenders respect him out there, but Jones is passing up open looks
