In that series Dirk still averaged over 20 points a game. More importantly, they ended up winning (and coming back from 0-2 going on the road just makes it even more meaningful). And isn't that the only thing that matters? As for Tmac being on a good team, you know it's hard to get good players when you have 2 max contract guys. That's just something you're going to have to live with. And what about this current team? Morey pulled off some miracles to put this squad together. Some on here even argued that they finally have a more talented roster than Dallas does. It sure looks like it on paper. But Rockets teams always look better on paper I'd rather have a balanced attack any day (even if it calls for a loss) than have to rely on two players to score 80% of my points on 65% of all my shots! How many times have you seen box scores like that? It's ridiculous. That same year, Rockets were just like the Mavericks. They had a decent team. Tmac averaged 25 pts, Yao averaged 19, Mike James with 12, Wesley with 12, Sura with 10, and Howard with 10. I mean that's a perfect attack. What more do you want from a team? They did take the Mavs to 7 games. Trust me, there's no logic in trying to argue that there's no talent on the roster. Those numbers I posted earlier are not much of an outlier. Obviously this team will eventually get it together and improve in every aspect. Take a look at their stats right now to get an idea of what I'm trying to say: you're relying on those 2 guys for 50% of your total offense. I don't know if that worked for Parker/Duncan, Wade/Shaq, Kobe/Shaq, but I think it's just asking for trouble. With all that said, Dirk is fine, he knows his role, his team knows how to get around his off-nights, and they're finally winning.
I came back from the game between the Mavs and the Magic.Numbers don't tell the whole story.Dirk played very poorly in the 1st quarter. All he did was take jumpers some of which didn't even come near dropping in the basket. He did better in the 2nd quarter, but he started to play well in the 3rd quarter when he drove to the basket and posted up. He hit some good outside shots in the 4th quarter but during the middle of the it,he settled for only jumpshots and missed them which helped the Magic narrow the deficit. He rebounded well on the offense boards but Orlando did a miserable job rebounding throughout the game. Even Dwight wasn't boxing out or going after the ball off the board well. I would like to see Dirk rebound well and try to put the ball on the floor and drive against a strong defensive ball club. Hedo worked hard even though he was mismatched but Lewis was absolutely horrible on defense.I can bet you guys like S.Jackson, Bruce Bowen or Kirilenko would have made things much more difficult for Dirk. His strength is jump shooting but that's the Achilles Heel of the Mavs too. Whenever the Magic drove the ball in the paint the Mavs were vulnerable. They had a hard time stopping Hedo,Jameer, and Dooling in addition to Dwight who is a great dunker but doesn't have much else on the offense end.Another thing I wanted to point out was a gigantic flop by Josh Howard in the 1st half when Dwight had the ball in the paint.Josh would have made John Flopton proud. The Mavs are not a championship caliber team.I'm not trying to compare the Rockets with them because we are not in their league but they are a beatable ball club.
