That's the sad part, the only reason he's getting these minutes is because 3 is our weakest position. We traded away our starting 3 knowing that it was our weakest position. The only option is trading him in a package for a good 3.
As a way of showing people that folks are not topped out in their rookie years, but I can not expect people on here to understand a contextual discussion, nosiree ! BTW - I believe Bud is struggling with his role, last year it was to come in and score the ball, they ran plays for him, and told him to just shoot it...this year, they want more and I think that is what he is struggling with....what exactly is he supposed to do. DD
Even if we read it in context, you were still wrong -- he hasn't improved whatsoever on any part of his game. It shouldn't be too surprising considering his minimal improvements year after year at Arizona. I had thought he might be closer to the finished product last year and so far, unfortunately, it looks like I'm right.
You very well might be right, because it doesn't look like he has improved at all. But, gonna have to give him the season to find that out....he started slowly last year too. And honestly, I think he misses playing with Lowry on the 2nd unit, Kyle always sought him out for early offense wide open 3s..... DD
Trust me, I'd rather you be right on this one. Chase was also one of the better trading chips we had and his value seems to have plummeted now. I'm not sure about the Lowry thing.. it's not like he's shooting contested jumpers now. He's gotten A LOT of open looks... they're just not falling. The worst part about it all is it seems he's getting abused a lot more down low defensively. I don't remember teams taking advantage him this much last year -- but whoever he's guarding now days just takes him into the post and muscles up a layup over him.
The difference in his shots is that for some reason he looks to be "Thinking" about it, rather than just "Stroking" it. DD
It's his motivation. Last year, he was very motivated as a rookie because he felt he was undervalued. He felt he had something to prove to everyone who thought he couldn't do it. Since he had a satisfying rookie season, now he's only playing to help the team (not himself) which is very different. Bud shies away from confrontations and wilts under the pressure if he's not trying to prove himself; it's the reason he's not a good defender because he doesn't know how to be aggressive, he's very soft. I think Adelman should cut his minutes and let him know that his playing time isn't guaranteed. Maybe that would motivate him, let him know that he has to keep proving himself. On the other hand, it could scare him and he might not be able to recover his confidence and motivation. This sophomore year is incredibly important to Bud's development. I really hope things go the former rather than the latter because this year will tell us the true potential Bud has. Meaning, does he have the potential to step it up or not. Let's hope so.
Now we can stop calling Bud a draft steal. He has nothing to improve, he will be what he is. You don't really see room to grow, at least I don't. I am dissapointed. Even NBA TV guys called him a steal last year. As DD mentioned, he hasn't improved at all. Maybe that's why he was available so late.
I think he still passes it well, rebounds well, but his shot is so hard to ignore that it makes everything else look terrible. Last night while diving out of bounds he tipped a rebound ahead that led to a B. Miller 3 pointer....late in the game....it was a very heady play. It is all about his confidence.....and honestly, I think Rick should tell him to suck it up and quit worrying and just play... DD
Chase needs to go to the D League and shoot 30 shots a game to get his form and confidence back. I am all for letting players play through thier slumps, but we are going on 20+ games now. Sooner or later a slump is going to turn into a bad year. JT I think has earned atleast a little time to show what he can do. Give him Chase's minutes for now and lets see what he has got.
I would be in favor of this if JT or Lee could guard SF's......Chase is the only backup we have at that position and I want Shane to get more rest. DD
Probably has to do with his form I remember when I first saw his jump shot, it was so smooth and always with good riddum. Now his shot looks really rushed and really flat, I think he is making an effort to change his shot because they aren't falling, and it's actually making it even more inconsistent. AAnnnd, he should stop shooting threes, do more of those run off a pick catch and shoot midrange
What backup SF are you afraid JT and Lee cant handle? Worse comes to worse, we still have JJ for situation matchups.
I would think that JT > Budinger as far as guarding SFs. Budinger is taller, which is DD's main knock on JT's inability to guard SFs. But JT is also a lot stronger than Budinger, so I doubt he'd be pushed around as easily as Budinger has been.
