Even last year this 3pt shot was on and off. It was never all that great or consistent to begin with. But it was much better than last season which really isn't saying anything cause his shot is completely nonexistent this year. He shot 37% last season which is just decent for a SHOOTER but he actually never shot 40% or anything higher in his 3 seasons at Arizona. Only consistent shot he had last yr was his mid-range shot that he barely shoots now.

He had one dunk off an Ish Smith pass.

This. I haven't been agreeing much with DD's posts these days but this post is a much needed wake up knock on people's heads. Yes, Chase sucked tonight, but so did the whole team. Don't put the blame on a player who only played 16 minutes or so versus the others who played much more but sucked too.
Bud is in his sophomore year and, historically, something happens to many good second year players which makes them hit the proverbial wall. Bud should stay focused and work harder and his game will come back. There is just so much impatience and blaming right now because the whole team, other than Martin and Scola, sucks.

Chase is powder soft. He avoids contact and is not aggressive taking the ball to the hole, even though he has the handles to do it. The next time Chase bodies up on defense, or slides his feet instead of reaching with his arms .... well that will be the first time.

Anyone that says differently either doesn't watch the games, or does so through complete homer/Buddlove glasses.

He is ok as your 8th or 9th best player, at the back end of your rotation for 15 minutes a night.

If you have him doing more, then you need better players ahead of him.

Chase can't change direction with ball, has no crossover, no first step, and a slow release. He also has no work ethic since he hasn't improved since his senior year in high school. He will never be anything more than an average role player. Chase can't even dominate in the summer league. He's not even as good as Luther Head. Lets trade him before everyone in the league figures it out.

A slow release? The one thing Chase does have is a quick ass shot release.

I'll tell you what's wrong with him....T-Will is the much needed competition he needs during practice/games to make a run for his minutes/salary/future with the Houston Rockets. So GLAD a young stud is here to cause some havoc!!!

One thing I've recently noticed is that Budinger seems to pick up fouls early and often. If he then has to worry about fouls the rest of the game, it might make him less physical on both ends of the court.

That said, I'm now leaning towards believing that nothing is really wrong with him. It could be that the possibilities of Terrence Williams has got me souring on Bud :p but maybe this is what Chase really is: a borderline main rotation player and a pretty strong third stringer. A player with NBA size and offensive skills, but lacking the one-on-one defensive ability to ever play a greater role. I know he's only in his sophomore season, but I'm not seeing any defensive improvement at all.

I actually think Budinger's been playing better recently, working to be more than a spot-up shooter. And having Lowry back in the second unit will help Budinger in many ways.

However, that might be just postponing the inevitable. Unless you believe he can dramatically improve defensively, you know Budinger's going to continue to be a target on defense, and teams will only go after him harder in the playoffs.

    not really.

Chase's shot from a set position is slow. He has no "flick". He does not have a quick release.

    He has no "flick"?

Hahahaha... What in Darwin's name does that mean?

He absolutely has a quick release, and you can "flick" off...

It is what bad coaches say to players to get them to flick their wrists after the ball is gone.

What does it do? Nothing..the ball is gone....

    Oh I see. :)

Good coaches say "Follow through", I would take it? For someone on Clutchfans to say that "Chase has no flick", is quite frankly with Stephen A, hilarious.

I can see it now at the Toyota Center...
"CHASE YOU HAVE NO FLICK! YOU GOTTA GIVE IT THE FLICKAROO!"

It's just a freaking term you arrogant ***.

Yes it's about "follow through" and also about the time it takes you to control the ball with your hands jump and shoot in one fluid motion.

Chase takes a while to set his feet (flat BTW) set the ball in his hands and bring the ball to his release point.

As said, he's soft. He brings his faggy volleyball player mentality in the court.

Yeah, of course you finish, it is all repetition, but if you are worried about a "FLICK" ing motion, you are toast, because the ball is gone, you need to worry about the setup, the consistent roll of the ball off the fingers, the balance of the body and the release.....if you want to flick the bugger off your finger, you can do that in the car on the way home.

Faggy? NSFW...at some places...SFW at my office.

It seems to me like he gets a hell of a lot of shots off in limited minutes for having such a slow release. That, and he is constantly running off screens with a defender trailing to contest. I have never seen him have a problem with his release point, his balance, or his shooting mechanics that would lead me to believe that he has a slow release point.

He has always been touted by pro scouts as having a quick release, a picture perfect form on his jumper, specifically when he is in catch and shoot situations. I tend to agree with that, judging by how easily he got quality shots off in games as a rookie.
