Maybe it's a false memory thing, but when I go and pick up my son from school, I see all the Junior High girls coming out of school, and they seem less developed (or about the same) than they were when I was in Junior High. My sister just turned 18, and her and her friends don't look any different than the people I went to school with (even looking through my yearbooks from the time doesn't change my perception). Let me clarify what I said. I certainly don't condone statuatory rape. I'm just saying that love is a funny thing. We can't always know when it is going to hit or with whom. Obviously, a relationship between a 40 year old and a 32 year old wouldn't shock anyone but a 24 - 16 does and understandably so. Teachers are in a very difficult situation and they have a very specific line they absolutely should never ever cross. He should have waited and so should she but there is no accounting for love. Ive heard girls are starting to hit puberty at 8 years old ... and im just imaging my 8 year old niece at the moment ... With girls maturing much quicker, I believe there should be a change on statutory rape laws. Its one thing to prey on young girls, but its another thing when an older guy (lets say 21) finds a 16 year old girl that he really likes and she is mature but mommy and daddy don't like him or mr police officer finds out and doesn't like the guy and throws him in jail. I have no problem with a guy going out with a much younger girl. Its his business. I remember hearing a tragic tale a few years ago: Some 18 year old guy got his 16 year old girlfriend pregnant. Being pro-life, the guy postponed any plans he had to attend college, got a job, and proposed to his girlfriend. She said yes, but her parents had a different idea: They pressed charges and the guy was eventually thrown in jail. Now this poor guy who did what was right and honorable is in prison and his child has no father. Assuming he and his girl get married when he gets out, he will never be able to get a good job or get into college or even the military (I think; I'm not sure what military rule says). Lynus, either that case happened somewhere other than in Texas, or its a myth. When I was 18 I was seeing girls that were anywhere from 15-30, It always comes down to compatibility in my book. But by and large I have found that I prefer older women, these days it's not uncommon for women in their 40's to have the body and attitudse of a much younger woman. As for the puberty thing, yall are scaring me!! My daughter is 8 now and I can't even begin to imagine having to deal with that anytime soon!! On the flip side tho, my 16 yr old step-daughter just started developing last year....I would think that would shoot down the hormone-in-the-food theory. Dylan, would it be different if the student was not in any classes with the teacher?
