We got bumped for a White Bronco during the NBA Finals for crying out loud. To top it off, we didn't even get an SI cover when we won the 2nd title until enough people complained and got a 'special edition' printed. Remember the 22 game streak? Very little coverage. Heck, most of the media was saying it was a fluke because we didn't play any tough teams. It's all a huge joke. Bottom line: Who cares what the media thinks anyway? That isn't limited to just sports media either. Let's face it, if it isn't New England Patriots, Brett Favre, Kobe Bryant, or Yankees/Red Sox, the sports media would have nothing to say.
i love it! i hate when we get hyped up : / i like to sneak in under the radar and sucker punch kirilinko in the face, i mean jump into first place i go to ut and we are getting all this damn attention, colt for heisman! ut national championship game! no damn it its halfway through the season dont jinx us ass holes....lets let the media hate because were gonna dominate (yah i flow a lil haha)
it all boils down to theyve jumped on the bandwagon the past two years but we lost to the jazz when we shouldve won and last year we lost yao, why would any of them pick us when history suggests otherwise, its a fool me once situation but i think they can all agree that if they knew we were gonna be healthy and have no injuries this year then the title is ours
Good point. I am not suprised because as we said we haven't showed anything yet. They can be excited about Hornets, Lakers, Celtics because they have already done something. But we? Well the potential is big bug we gotta step it up and prove everybody wrong.
We get respect by winning in the post-season. Period. By never advancing, we do not deserve any respect.
**Boom Head Shot** Took the words right out of my mouth. With T-Mac and Yao as our core the last 3 years, we should have at least gotten to the 2nd round....thus, we're UNDERACHIEVERS. We HAVE to at least get to the Conference finals THIS year, it's been long over due. Just look at our roster and tell me that's not a championship caliber lineup. Aside from not having a reliable back up at the 5-spot, we've got all the other bases pretty much covered (yes, I am comfortable with the cats in the 1-Spot)
we have yet to do anything to deserve respect. When the season unfolds and we happen to be the best, the respect will come. The Hornets didn't get any attention last year even when they led the west for a long stretch. After they showed dominance in the playoffs, all the bandwagoners are on board.
I neither know nor care what the sports media has to say about us. I stopped paying attention to them ages ago. Sports "analysts" are some of the most worthless types of journalists on the planet. If we are worthy of high praise (and we are), we will prove it very soon. There will be plenty of crow to go around at that time.
The question is not "what have the Rockets proven?". The question I asked was, "Why have the media soured on us after they had us on par or just below the level of the Lakers right after the Artest trade?". Perhaps a few never had us that high, but I distinctly remember a lot of articles going up about how the Rockets definitely catapulted themselves into the second favorite team to win the West. That's where I had them after the Artest trade, and that's where I still have them now. I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation to have, and yes, I do want the media to be on our side, because as someone else already stated, the media's impression of your team can have a PROFOUND effect on the outcome of a series. Just look at last year. What exactly was the difference between LA and Houston that allowed Utah to beat one and lose to the other? Kobe Bryant shooting a ton more free throws than Tracy McGrady would be a good start. Why did Kobe shoot so many free throws? Don't give me that "TMac shies away from contact" BS because if you watch any game of that series you know T-Mac elevated his game like he usually does in the playoffs, penetrated frequently, laid his body out to be pummeled by the perennially-fouling Jazz, and usually got no whistles to show for it. Kobe got the calls where T-Mac didn't. MVP. Lakers. Reputation. The media can definitely affect how a series is officiated, and if we face the Jazz again I want them on our side.
Hey, that's good because people will have low expectations of us. And when they see us blast off to the top, they'll be surprised and they'll look like idiots. And we can always say distinguish banwagoners that way, too, as we can compare what they though of us before the season, and what they'll think of us later on. Bandwagon fans will be joining Clutchfans in this season, so look for a bunch of new members. I'm sure we already somet more after the whole Artest trade happened. It also means less pressure, and less disappointment. If Utah doesn't do as well as they say, they'll look worse. I think the main reason we don't get much respect right now is because of our playoff success within the last few years. Same reason for why T-Mac doesn't get the respect he deserves either.
...Pacman Jones. I'm feeling a trend here. Hey RonRon, if you're reading, would you mind stirring up the pot a little bit to get us some attention down here? Nothing real, just something for the media to chew on, look in our direction. Like one of those Carl Everett "I don't believe in dinosaurs" kinda moments. Thanks.
I get sick of reading what the media writes about this team because well, we already know what they are going to say and rightly so IMO. Health and the fact that we havent got out of the first round on numerous occasions is enough for the media to be sceptical about this team and that is a fair assessment. Morey has done his job and added Artest and Barry which are the missing pieces to the puzzle like we all know and Deke should be signed mid season some point. Get over what the media says people!! If they dismiss this team during the year and we are playing at a CHIP level then lets talk about the media hate. we aint proven jack and untill we do we will be underdogs untill we do what Boston did last year.
Instead of asking what's with all the national media hate, ask yourself this: When was the last time the national media hated on a Championship team or a team who advanced deep in the playoffs? if anything, you all sound bitter because the national media is right about their hype. They hyped up the Lakers after they just traded for Gasol, rightfully so. They hyped up Boston after their "Big 3" trade, rightfully so. They somewhat hyped up the Jazz after they made the WCF. If anything the Jazz should be hating the media for putting them behind the Rockets.
forget about it, man, those sports writers will jump on the Rockets bandwagon if we win a championship, and act like they knew this was gona happen.
Hollinger picked the Rockets to win it all last year. And look where we ended up... I would say the odds of either Yao or TMac missing the playoffs are pretty high. So all the sports writers are doing is being safe. Many of them are saying the Rockets could be a best team in the NBA if they avoid injuries. That is a way to sound smart: Rank them at 4-5, and then if they win it all, they can say " See, I was right!".
WTF are you talking about? I agree with those that don't care what the media says. The games aren't played on paper. That said, the Rockets get so much "hate" as you like to call it because teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Hornets actually have the experience of playing in and winning important games. I'm positive that where our ranking comes from.
No surprise here. Even when we were champs media talked about Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls. Now? They talk about SA Spurs, Jazz or New Orleans. Respect to all of them but Rockets are for the first time in years the best Texas team, no freakin' Mavs, no Spurs and for God's sake please don't mention L.A. Lakers.
When you got a guy like Richard Justice feedin' them what they want to hear, you get no love for such a great sports city. FIRE JUSTICE!
