To tell you my opinion, I don't think he wants to mentor Leinart. He has said all along that he would want to mentor VY and that he actually has a clause in his contract that would allow him to stay on the team to do so.

If these reports are true, the Titans are probably targeting Leinart and maybe McNair wants VY. But who knows...

It was on the insider report last night. It talked about him beingcut next month and going ot the Ravens. You can probably find it somewhere on their site if you look hard enough

I never knew there was actually anything released saying that he would want to mentor VY. I thought that was just bbs type material since he and VY were friends.

I remember there was an article with McNair talking about mentoring VY. I tried searching for it but I can't find it. IIRC, McNair actually quoted that he would like to mentor VY and he did mention something about a clause in his contract that would allow him to do so.

It was the same article in which he was telling Jeff Fisher to watch out for this kid when VY was a Junior in h.s.

When VY was a Sophomore he was at the Titans hotel to visit with McNair. McNair also had a football camp that he had Young attend a few summers ago. I know they have worked out together.

The ball is in Floyd Reeses (Titans GM) court. He has already extended a portion of McNairs contract that voids the $50 million roster bonus. The 50 million roster bonus was just put into the contract to force both sides to get back to the negotiating table. The Titans are ready to carry McNairs large salary against this years cap. I think they would prefer to have him renogitiate his contract and extend him for 2-3 years (thus reducing the current high cap hit and spreading it out over the duration of the contract). That will give the Titans additional salary cap relief this year and allow him to start for the next 1-2 years depending on the time it would take for the rookie QB to get comfortable with the system. Again, if he does not redo his contract the Titans have the cap space to deal with his current high salary for 2006 and they could potentially place the franchise tag on him for the 2007 season.

I do not see anything happening with the McNair contract situation until after this years draft. With this being the last year for both Floyd Reese and Jeff Fisher on their current contracts I think having McNair as the starter gives the Titans the best chance to win now (which both need to have happen). I would want nothing more than to see McNair play out his career as an Oiler/Titan uniform. He has done so much for this team it would be a shame to see him leave and play for another team. However, I also realize this is a business and as such anything is possible.

It sounds more to me that the Titans have been leaning more towards Leinart since he will be more accessible to them w/ NOLA signing Brees.

I visit a Titans' board. A lot of the stuff reported there has the Jets doing a deal with NO to enable the Jets to pick Leinart at #2 while leaving D'Brick or Mario Williams for the Jets at #4-- plus whatever else NO gets from the Jets.

Agreed, but I'm sure no one wants to mentor someone who's going to put them out of a job...Its human nature...

I'm assuming you meant NO at #4.

But I think NO has put themselves in a good position for the draft. I thought they overpayed Brees but if he works out, the Saints could have one of the best offseasons.

It use to be the teams that want Leinart would HAVE to deal with us knowing NO would grab him for sure. Now, unless they want Reggie, they almost have no reason to even call us. NO could certainly have a bidding war for Leinart, the major partners (Jets/Titans) would much rather pay him #2 money with their cap situation.

I'm still hoping for a trade down.

Young wasn't going to put McNair out of a job and I don't think they had a falling out either. I honestly think it's more of Steve realizing he only has maybe two years left in him and wanting to win. The Titans don't have any chance of contending soon and Steve can be a mentor to VY in the offseason like LT is to Bush.

I don't care if it's moved to the hangout but then every VY related thing should be moved there because the Texans aren't picking him. I think if it's in here it gets more appropriate discussion and responses then in the hangout in between all the "my girlfriend dumped me what do I do" threads. Just my opinion though.

Rumor has it that the Texans are already talking contract with Reggie.
