One thing I've noticed is that teams are all over the Texans when they run the play- action and rollouts. They know it's coming. It's time for Kubiak to adjust. I hope he can do it.
Yep. That play was automatic last year. Monday night, the Colts had AJ double-teamed. Happens all the time - give any team an offseason and they'll figure you out.
They also always run the play action to the same side, and there is no other option for Matt other than to run it....why not have the tight end dragging from the opposite side of the field too? Clearly the majority of the Texan's issues are in bad coaching. DD
They also often run the play action with only a single receiver (Andre), so if he can't get open or is double teamed, the play is dead immediately and Schaub has no choice but to throw it away. On top of that, the play action is called WAY too much, it is just soooo predictable at this point
I was leaning more toward a poorly expressed point of view with a vague and ambiguous point of view due to a lack of understanding of the game, e.g. "he doesnt like to get hit" and "they need to score more points to win"
I guess I give the reader too much credit and think they understand the subtleties of the meaning and context of the game. My bad. DD
i think its based on how bad he gets sacked early on..he got sacked hard a few time early on in the game..messed him up big time.
This blog post matches what I see when I watch the game. Schaub forces the ball to AJ too much, JJ is just too inconsistent, and the combo of Walter/Anderson/Daniels/Dreesen have been under-utilized. Need to get back to running our passing game like we did last year. I think with the new OC, Dennison, our running game has gotten better, I just wish there was a way to get Kyle back to call the passing plays :-( The past couple of years, it seems as though the passing game was so well-designed. This time, there's a lot of trying to force the ball into tight spots to get AJ his touches.
That seems kind of hard to believe, AJ doesn't have a gross amount of pass targets this year. He's up there, sure. But he's a HOFer. If you're not throwing him the ball, then shame on ya.
I think the real question is... "Whats up with the pass protection?" They kept Schaub clean last year and he put up monster numbers, showing what he can do with adequate time. This year opponents are hitting Schaub it seems on every play. One of our "building blocks" Eric Winston, has had some absolutely terrible games
Great question and I have no answer. The O-line has more talent this year so it's really weird. Winston has always been on the verge of being an allpro but he has never made that next leap and I'm starting to think that he never will.
You get him his balls, to be sure, but not when he's triple covered. Schaub throws one or two balls to AJ every game he has no business throwing. It's like he has one read or something. Sometimes you have to let AJ draw the attention of the defense and use Walter/Daniels/Anderson/Jones to loosen up the coverage and then you hit 'Dre with a big gainer. These long developing routes to 'Dre aren't cutting it, the defense is all over him. Just my opinion, but 'Dre will make it easier for the other guys, and then when you're down near the goal line, let the Freak eat!
