Im sure ill get flamed but....I tend to agree with DD to an extent. I think there are just times when Schaub just looks like he can be a top 5 QB in the league...and others where he looks like he is an inexperienced backup QB who is shell shocked by the speed of the game. I dont know why....i dont think its coaching though. I think he is just consistently inconsistent.
No one here said that the pick 6 wasn't his fault. He didn't see the corner behind Walter and under threw due to the hit he was about to take. It's hard to really blame him for that after getting smashed by Sessions, Freeney, and Mathis. You're nitpicking and I thought you would have known better after being completely wrong about Schaub last year. You fooled me. I thought you might finally be on board with the Texans but then you say stuff like this. Btw, Schaub is second in yards per game over the last 3 seasons.
that can be a misleading stat tho given how often they were passing in the 4th quarter over the past 3 seasons
Okayy? Dude has been money in the fourth quarter. He played well in the second half against the Colts aside from the fumble, which really didn't mean anything at that point. The chances of recovering an onside kick and scoring another TD was slim to none. The coaching and play-calling needs to be questioned. Not Matt Schaub.
We should focus on this season though. He's off to a rough start: 2008: #7 in QB rating, #4 in Y/G, #4 in Completion % 2009: #7 in QB rating, #1 in Y/G, #4 in Completion % 2010: #12 in QB rating, #9 in Y/G, #8 in Completion % Maybe it's a matter of strength of schedule. Outside of the Colts and Titans, we've annually enjoyed a relatively weak SoS each year, and last year it was decidedly creampuff (Jets aside). Could play into what some have been saying - Schaub thrives until he faces a tough defense and struggles to rise to the challenge.
Seems to me like the play-calling struggles to rise to the challenge. We run the ball against the Colts like we should have and everything would be honky dory around here.
i dont disagree that the coaching is a disaster....but to not place ANY blame on the QB is being short sighted IMO. Good players make plays...they also make their share of mistakes..but they make plays when they need to more often than not...or else they dont continue to be considered good. Matt doesnt make plays more often than not. Manning, Brady, Big Ben, Eli, Rivers, Brees and even Favre make plays more often than not
Huh? Good players also make the pro-bowl. Oh..wait All of these quarterbacks usually get better pass protection than Schaub..
Why? Everybody enjoys a good trainwreck. DD makes stupid, ignorant post... spends next 30 posts backing up ignorant statement with useless rhetoric. Just hand him enough rope to hang himself with.
Go RAIDERS ! Yeah, Schaub never gets rattled, he is a rock back there. And I heard the same BS when I was ragging on Carr, it's ok.....it takes others a while to see the truth. DD
Yeah, the only difference is the folks that failed to understand what I thought about VSpan and how the Rockets, not being contenders, should have played him some to find out IF he was part of the future. I am not surprised that you were one that missed the mark on thousands of my posts about that, saying the exact thing.....but hey, comprehension is just not some people's bag, now is it? DD
You can not possibly be that dense, I am saying that people were giving me crap and apologizing for Carr when I was criticizing him too...... The same people that are probably doing it now.....folks don't want to see that a player they love has flaws, and while I have admitted I underestimated Schaub and he is a good QB. He is not an elite one, and still is prone to making very costly mistakes, and that he gets rattled at times, moreso, than the elite QBs do. It's ok though...I understand that people don't want to hear their beloved player is not all they think he is...I get it. Fans have been waiting a long time for a playoff game, and are hopeful that this is the year.....it might happen... DD
Wow. You call that justification for your argument? Anybody that supported Carr was just blinded by how bad the rest of the team was ... they saw how much we needed improvement at other positions too, not just QB. It's hard to blame them for wanting that. Schaub is not Peyton, Tom Brady, or Ben Roethlisberger. He has his flaws (slow-footed, a little streaky), but he has improved every year and is a top ten QB. Go re-watch the second half of the Washington game -- his decision making is impeccable when he has time. The problem is that Monday night he had a blitzing linebacker in his face too many times, and other than that he is asked to roll-out way too much (not his strength) He is certainly a product of the system, which is why he is not like the 3 guys I mentioned, but he is very good when the system is working. He's not very good when the system isn't working. There aren't many QB's that would be better here when the system is working, nor are there many that would be able to still shine when the system isn't working.
