The worst pain I've felt is probably breaking up with someone you really loved for reasons beyond your control. Then when she left she forgot to fill the fridge with beer and she took the car with her.
They are formed from a variety of different minerals crystallizing in urine brought about by an imbalance in the urine chemistry. One basic preventive measure is to make sure you drink a decent amount of water daily. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidney_stone
An abscessed tooth was the worst for me as well. I woke up with it the first day of a new job and hoped it was just a tooth ache and would go away. After two days I couldn't take it anymore and went to the dentist, I dot pain pills that knocked me out the rest of the day and the antibiotics had done their job by time I woke up.
The skin or whatever it is under your tongue that keeps you from swallowing your tongue was really far up on my tongue, pretty much to the tip. I couldn't stick out my tongue far at all. My dentist said that I should consider having it cut back a bit because it may cause the back of my gums to receded when I get older. So, when I signed up to get my tonsils removed, I told them to do that as well. But when I went into the hospital, I changed my mind and told 2 nurses... Well, those nurses didn't tell the Doc, so they did it anyway. Needless to say, my parents were pissed. But, yeah, recovery from that was extremely painful. I couldn't eat anything but cold soup for 2 weeks and had a hard time swallowing for about 2 months, couldn't talk for a month, couldn't talk without sounding like I just got my tongue pierced for 6 months, and couldn't fully extend my tongue for over a year. Don't ever get that done unless it's a must.
i got jacked on a motorcycle trip through W. Africa. One of the dudes took a full swing at my right femur w/a machete. Blade must have been dull because i still have the leg, though my femur was broken.
I have some weird pain in my arm that happens on rare occasion. It makes me want to cut it off it is so painful. Go to the doctor/dentist and make sure it is taken care of. Caring for you health, and making sure you are not in constant pain is too important. Find a way to afford it.
Thought I had a kidney stone in college, but it wouldn't pass. So they decided to catherize, and the nurse who did it apparently didn't know what the hell she was doing.. That was the single most painful thing I've had happen. The freaking nurse kept cracking jokes as well. "Well there's blood in the urine. We're not sure if it's from whatever's causing the problem or from the trauma of this procedure." I nearly hit her. I think today, I would insist on an experienced nurse and aborted the procedure at the first sign of incompetence. I've put a nail through a finger, cracked my wrist in multiple places, got knocked out in two different car wrecks, took a line drive in the head that knocked me out, had a bad ganglion cyst on my left wrist, had a nasty 5 week bout of the flu, and sprained the hell out of my ankle, but that college incident wins for both the pain and location.
Really? I had mine done a few years back. The op was at noon; I went home, slept, had dinner, slept, and woke up the next morning and played 36 holes of golf. Other than being a lil' itchy, no pain. Where did you have your procedure done?
Food poisoning for me, it was 48 hours of hell. Wouldn't wish it on a enemy... The again I have never broken a bone nor torn a ligament....
When the doctor was digging around inside my wrist looking for the pin he inserted in order to pull it out. It was actually more mental pain than physical pain.
I had one when I was 18. That was my worst up to that point. It was exceeded by the pain after I had surgery to repair broken tibia and fibula last year (two large metal plates and a dozen screws) following hit and run as I was crossing the street in Amsterdam. I didn't walk at all for 6 months and was on crutches for another 3 months after that. I can think of a dozen pains that compete for second place, but that was the worst. I didn't sleep for weeks because no amount of painkiller could dull the pain.
Lasik Plus. I have extremely sensitive eyes. To light, touch, everything... I wanted to rip my eyeballs out.
In terms of very short term pain... I had just gotten home from a fairly rigorous workout, and sat down at my computer for a little bit. I had been slumping in the chair for a while when I reached forward for the mouse. Suddenly my entire abdominal area (from just above my love lance all the way up to my sternum) violently cramped up on me and would not let go. I looked down at my stomach and it looked like something out of a sci-fi flick. It must have lasted a full minute before I was able to force myself to stretch far enough to relieve the cramp. I'm sure it's not much compared to what others have experienced, but it sucked pretty damn bad.
Dislocated my ankle playing basketball. Twice (once when I was about 17, then again when I was 34. Jumped and landed on someone elses foot, and my foot basically got stuck at right angles to my leg.
