good point. never thought of the Olympics that way. it does raise a question, though: If Yao isn't 100% and playing could reinjure his foot, would you still want him to play in the Beijing Olympics?
You can ask youself a similar question: If Yao isn't 100% and playing could reinjure his foot, would you still want him to play for the Rockets, night in and night out? It all depends on what you mean by "100%" and "could reinjure".
I'm from China. I can tell you many many Chinese bball fans support Rockets not only because of Yao, but also the team bball Rox is now playing. Many Rockets are loved by Chinese fans: TMac, Battier, Scola, Landry and (although traded to NO) Bonzi. The best Chinese basketball forum: HoopChina (no, sina doesn't even have a chance) now have several active threads with titles like "I still believe" or "I will never give up this season". Go Rox!
As a chinese fan, I don't care about the Chinese team in the Olympics. They had no shot because of the sucky guard play anyway. As a Rockets fan, I feel terrible about what has become of this season. It's going to be strange watching this team going forward. I know they'll play hard, I know they can still win games, but I also know they can't advance in the playoffs with the weakened frontcourt. My hope is that Adelman will now scrap the JVG offense and go back to putting in his offense, use the rest of the season to get the Adelman offense down.
This morning heard this news, I was shocked. From Yao's performance in the last game , he was indeed injured, but not so serious like we thought . Beijing's officials (or CBA) want Yao to participate in this year's Olympic Games, so they forced him out of the race to prepare, if Yao continues to play in the race remaining, then he certainly will miss the Olympic Games held in August in Beijing, and that is CBA can not bear, they will not allow this to happen, they would not concern the future and destiny of the Rockets. anyway,I think this year's Rockets is a victim of a political conspiracy.
What happens when China wakes up????? What happens when China wakes up????? How do you think they will react??? I hope they dont blame the NBA.
chinese fans are the same as fans from houston or argentina or w/e > tons of panicked posts and symbolic internet seppukku > small faction of optimists who say everything will be okay, we can still make a run w/small ball > they blame us for overplaying yao's minutes, we blame them for the fact that CNT exists and yao has to play for them I'll tell you what. doesn't matter where you live this is bull****. this team was FOR REALS, yesterday people are taking pics of yao laughing and running around in practice and today it's OVER. that is crap
An interesting answer. As pointed out by others today, "stress fractures are dangerous, persistent things", and it may never be cured "100%", and he "could reinjure" his foot again in the physical NBA games. So by your logic, Yao has seen his last NBA game already. If this is the conclusion, why do you care about if Yao plays in the Olympics or not? I see the matter this way: Yao can participate in the Olympics to a certain degree if he is cleared by the doctor. Just wish Yao recover sooner enough to take the Rockets all the way to the NBA Champs this year. Then take Team China to the Olympic Champs.
