Also of importance is that the team realizes that Yao Ming must have the ball when he is open and calling for it in a scoring position. This need must be emphasized by JVG.

A healthy 2004-05 T-mac and A healthy 2005-06 Ming and everything else will slowly fall into place. That is the answer to the rockets Key question

Clearly staying healthy. If T-Mac goes down, it's game over. You saw what happened last season.

None of the above... more interested in seeing if the Rockets can find a successful trio in the two through four... too much confliction for me to have faith in that core right now. Really hoping Hayes develops quickly...

I'm not so big on health as it's an issue with a lot of premier teams (save Dallas). Duncun and Shaq both have aging bodies heading into the new season. T-mac has had months upon months to work on his back, and Yao has had plenty of time to recover from his foot injury. Bob Sura is likely done....so where's the health concerns? I guess last season really left it's scars.

Beyond health....seems like more people think the Rockets bench will be more problematic then the PF position. I think the Rocks have the depth now. With Mutombo and Hayes (assuming j-howard starts), and battier being able to slip done to PF against teams like Dallas or Phoenix, the Rockets are far more versitle (swift was just a bust). Add in a more developed Head, Vassilis Spanoulis (sounds like a virus...maybe that should be his nick?), and Alston having to have a better year, combined with Ryder (who can't be worse then Wesley).

Can anyone shoot the ball? I think the additions of Novak and Battier will help some, but who else? The 3 point shot was an asset for the Rox during the 51 win season, but was AWOL last year. If Yao or T-Mac isn't on the floor nor making shots, who can we count on for some O?

Health definitely. On any team, you take out their best two players, they're closer to a Development League team than a NBA Team. In order to have a good season, you just haven't have your best players injured.

Can Tracy and Yao stay healthy. Everything else is a secondary issue, comparitively.

    50 games? So What?
Could win 50 games with Tracy and Yao
    with three scrubs

    2nd round or Bust

Winning 50 games is *not* an improvement
    It is just being healthy

    I *want* improvement

How soon before our pathetically imcompetent management collectively gets fired.

I agree that the aim is the second round - but seriously, this team isn't going to win 60 games next year. So it seems like the biggest question really is, does this team have what it takes to make it to the second round of the playoffs?

I think they have just enough. Assuming they don't have to play Dallas or SA in the first round of course.

I guess I should have had "Can Van Gundy make these pieces work together in harmony?" as one of the options....
