It has been a long time, probably 6 years ago, but when I had a Prelude, I did 100 one night on I-24 just to do it. Since then, I have done over 90 several times in my Maxima but I can't confirm that I have done 100 again in it. I am thinking that I have, but obviously it is something that I don't want to do very often. I am always afraid that I would blow out a tire or an axle would fly off or something.
I had an '84 Mustang HO that I took up to 130, and then when I got my '92 Mustang GT, I took her up to 140 in Stock trim. I haven't pushed her top end since I began adding performance parts, but then again, I have a family now, so I don't think I will be doing that any time soon if at all.
120 In my Mazdaspeed Protege on I45 near Rankin Rd., it was smooth as glass and I still had alot more pedal to go.
Interesting...I probably have driven the most unusual vehicle at high speed of anyone so far. I got my old Gran Torino up to 125 on 45 going to Galveston one night. That car could flatout cruise and had tons of power on the top end. It still had more in her, but the front end started shimmying bigtime at 120. I would never do that again..but back then I was young, dumb and full of....hmm..nevermind...
Not very fast, but I once jumped some RR tracks Dukes of Hazzard style back in high school. The whole car was airborne for about a second. It wasn't even my car...
I've had my MINI up to 130 (computer limited) on a back road between Waco and Houston and up to 110 on the front straight at Texas World Speedway in College Station.
I've done a little bit over 100 but then I got smart and slowed down. I also got pulled over going 90 in a 60 mile zone, but the cop was cool and wrote 70 on the ticket. I didn't even realize I was going 90, there was nobody on the freeway and I just stepped on it.
DAMN. I hope you don't mean from downtown to downtown. I've probably went 105, but definitely 100. Don't remember.
On open roads I was familiar with *no traffic* on speed rated tires for those concerned (rightly so for safety) 135 - 145 mph several different times. Everyone should experience at least the fringes of tunnel vision once in their life. I watched a movie recently called Mischief 3000 which is a decent documentary of last years Gumball Rally. Its a New York to Cali free for all with about 160 ultra high performance cars. A Ferrari F50 got tagged going 187 mph – he went to jail. Brock Yates the guy who came up with the idea for the original Cannonball New York to Cali race and his partner Dan Gurney drove a Ferrari Daytona coast to coast in under 24 hours with no tickets.
I can win the weakest car/fastest speed part of this competition. When we drove down to Texas from Canada 5 years ago, I was driving a 1984 4 cylinder Toyota Camry. I got up over 110 going down some of the hills in Montana, where there wasn't a speed limit at the time. I wouldn't want to be weaving in and out of traffic with that car, but Montana was so empty I drove at least 4 hours at 100 mph. That car sure was nice and reliable, but since it had a block heater and no air conditioning, we sent it back to Canada with a friend.
138mph....gave my buddy's 911 targa an Italian tune-up on the I-5 just north of LA (desert wasteland)....
I've driven about 105MPH a couple of times. I've been in a car going 150, a guy who fixed up his mustang, that was scary. I work with a couple of people who paid to drive a NASCAR car at Texas Speedway. Has anyone else ever done that?
