And for the record, both Adelman and JVG are great coaches. Each have had talented players to work worth, both have made it to the finals, both have comparable winning %s and both were fired for not living up to expectations. The only difference between the two, is one's offense is better and one's defense is better. The end result for both have been pretty much the same.

Saying one is worse than the other is like saying your **** smells worse after eating lasagna than it does after eating a burrito. The fact is, both coaches have **** that stinks, cause thats what **** does. So stop spraying Lysol on Adelman's terds while you flush JVG's down the toilet.

Well, I agree on this one. I think both are pretty good coaches. I still think the Rockets O hasn't improved enough this year. But the Proof will be in the pudding at the end of the year. But the D is still there. They were #2 in FG%, last time I checked.

No. JVG would force the players pass the ball to Yao, Bogut would have fouled out.

Think about it this way: Bogut has 5 fouls when Yao has so few touches.

    The differences:
    1. Rookies
They are getting their minutes. The more talented players are playing, not the most experienced or "continuation" (apparently Van Gundy's reason for insisting on starting and playing Howard so much). The only reason a couple of rookies got minutes under Van Gundy was because the team was ravaged with injuries.

Brooks, and Landry would be non-existent under Van Gundy. I doubt Scola would be seeing as many minutes either, with some of the mistakes he's made on defense. Van Gundy hated V-Span for minutes, when Scola makes a lot on defense. But he's been improving under Adelman because he's allowed to play through it.

    2. A more balanced offense
When Tracy McGrady went down, the team still managed to win games. Alston is stepping up big, Brooks can score, Scola, Landry, Wells, even Novak had a good offensive game.

    3. Intelligent adjustments
You know how the Rockets beat Golden State without McGrady? That would have not had happened last year.

are u only obsessed with yao? we won. yao struggled. he'll bounce back. get over it.

we shot 50% tonight. it wasn't the offense. complain when we shoot 35% and yao gets 11 touches then u have a legit argument.

Yes he did. Obviously you didn't watch the games when he played. In the future, please think before you post moronic, untrue statements. Novak sucked last year and was a terrible shooter. This year is a different story

Why is this obsessed with Yao?
I'm talking about the difference between JVG and RA. Isn't this the topic? I'm happy with the win, but I do feel Yao is under utilized these couple games. It probably wouldn't have been like this under JVG for 2 games in a row. That's a difference between two coaches.

    1. Agree.

2.Agree to some degree. Last year Rockets didn't have players who really could score outside Yao and Tmac. But RA's offensive flow indeed is better than JVG's for the past month or so. And defense also picked up lately except some 4th quarters.

    3. Not necessary. Rockets beat a better Spurs last year without Tmac. RA had made some bad decisions this year as well, like let Tmac shot FTs, left Novak in game too long etc.

We could win a championship and you would b**** about how we didn't sweep

Who knows? Fact is, Van Gundy has a horrible track record for developing rookies.

Even late draft picks like Kevin Martin developed under Adelman much like Brooks and Landry are doing right now. Bottom line is, Adelman lets rookies play through their mistakes (in this way, similar to Phil Jackson). And as such, Adelman has had successful rookies.

He's not entirely wrong with that assumption. Phil Jackson got Kwame Brown to play excellent in the playoffs. Bynum and Farmar have made huge strides under him, and Critterton was coming along too.

Poppovich has made stars out of late 1st round and 2nd round draft picks. I doubt Manu would have ever happened under Van Gundy. In fact, I think any honest observer could tell you Manu would have never ever happened.

A lot of players sucked and shot terribly under Jeff Van Gundy. A whole list of them.

Under Adelman, guys like Alston have been thriving. There's a reason why Bonzi Wells was happy when Adelman returned.

There was absolutely no excuse for Wells to be buried on the bench last year, Howard to have played those amount of minutes, and Spanoulis to be yanked.

Really, Van Gundy has been inspiring. His legacy remains his 1 run to the final with the Knicks as an 8th seed, and if I recall correctly, the team's core consisted of Patrick Ewing, Marcus Camby, Latrell Sprewell, Allan Houston, Charlie Ward, Larry Johnson, and Chris Childs. How that team was only the 8th seed is a mystery.

Did Adelman develop Gerald Wallace? Nope. Buried him.

Bonzi is playing hard b/c it is a contract year. Period. Bonzi only cares about Bonzi.

Oh, and I guess you forgot BONZI QUIT ON THE TEAM after JVG promised him one last chance at PT. He quit. Bonzi gave up. But go ahead and make up BS

I am so tired of these arguments.

JVG is gone....why even bring him up?

Let's get behind the current team/regime and make a big playoff push.

Thank you. Especially when we are playing well

Yet some people just like to start arguments.

Great that we won. Let's keep it up

So? He developed more stars than Van Gundy ever did.

If Wallace didn't end up being picked up in an expansion draft the Bobcats, he would have probably never developed under anybody. He landed in a perfect situation where he was chosen in an expansion draft for his athleticism, then got enough playing time to apply that athleticism to his game.

Van Gundy buried him on the bench since the start of the season. Who was even surprised? This was the same guy who insisted starting and giving Juwan Howard minutes because of "continuation."

Juwan Howard. Juwan ****ing Howard. The guy who didn't do anything to help the team. Was soft, didn't rebound well, whose only skill on offense was a streaky jumpshot (at that point we're better watching Yao just launch it himself), but played because of "leadership". Okay, cheer Van Gundy all you want. Cheer the 1st round elminations. Who cares? Your disappointment.

First of all, most players don't get a second chance after "a few seasons". Why develop a 25 year old when you can develop a 22 year old with the same skillset?

And I'm surprised you feel that JVG was just "unlucky" that his GMs have consistently provided for him, year after year, the crappiest young players in the league who basically have no future anyway. And that his style can't possibly have anything to do with it.

It *could* be true, and I don't have high opinions of CD or the old Knicks GM when it comes to drafting. But I just feel it's unlikely.

No. I'm just saying that just because the product you see on the court is crap, doesn't mean it was crap to begin with.

Where did you get these stats? I couldn't find these sort of stats on ESPN. And I don't remember being able to split things like this at 82games.

I wasn't trying to say your conclusion was wrong. I was just pointing out that your stat was worthless, the way they were presented(which you did not disprove).

And the numbers do reflect what I wrote in my last post, that our offense seem to remain similar to JVG days when both T-Mac and Yao are on the floor.

Okay. Beside Hayes, we had no other options. You need two PF's. And Bonzi came into the season out of shape and pissed off that he didn't get a contract. he admitted that this season

And Wallace played two seasons under RA and got no PT

Also, although Gerald Wallace never developed under Adelman, it was because the team was winning and there was no room to develop him.

They had Peja Stojakovic and Hedo Turkoglu in front of Wallace. Both, by the way, were 2 players who got amble minutes and developed well under Adelman.
