How about the very first post... "It's amazing what winning can do for a team, a person, and fans. Some of you stuck by Steve during the hard times. But most of you people have no loyalty, and should be ashamed. You know who you are fairweather fans.......This is Steve's 5th year, did you people forget what he's done the last 4? Is Steve not allowed to have a bad season? Is he not allowed to have a learning curve with a new coach, new offense???.....I'm disgusted." Excuse me? Someone is digusted with me because I because I'm not a loyal Steve Francis fan? And where is it written that Steve Francis supercedes the Rockets? IOW, if I don't think SF is untradeable or he doesn't walk on water and I don't think Francis is above criticism or if I think he's a bad fit as a PG for an inside-out team...then I'm not a LOYAL fan? As I said before, if the powers that be decide Francis is not in the Rockets' future plans...so be it. I don't see how what Francis has done for the last 4 years impacts that in any way. If the starter of this thread makes the Hawks his #1 team if Francis is traded there, then he sure as h**l is a FOF.
I'll never be a hawks fan. Where did you get this idea from? Because I was defending Steve? If you believe Steve is not a good fit for this team, fine. You're entitled to your opinion. That wasn't the basis of my original post. I was arguing that some bash Steve for his play earlier in the season, but jump on the Francis bandwagon after the five game win streak.
So you're upset because people are angry with Steve for is horrible play, but have plenty of complements for him when he starts to play well? Are you serious? How long have you REALLY been following sports? 1-2 months?
yeah, because he's had less than a season to completly alter his game from the way he's used to playing the previous four seasons. Why can't he have a bad season without being the center of fan backlash. He has done it without complaint, and it's finally starting to click. Why can't we give someone a chance before condeming them?
Why do people say he is stupid on the floor? He is a pro athlete and you guys judge his game without even playing against him. I think the only people who can judge his game is other players who played a game with him and trainers that view 1,000 of tapes of how he plays. I think all the people that hate on him are people that cannot shoot the ball and don't know how tough it is playing in the NBA. I think Clutch should kick out people who are not even fans that are negative. THIS IS A ROCKETS FORUM not people who sponsor Gatorade new drink HATERADE.
Steve has been getting worse with every passing year, just look at his numbers, is that something we should celebrate and be 'loyal' to? You make it sound like Steve is some MVP that is untouchable, but in reality he has been the best player on a lottery team the past 4 years. Also, I never understand why people use the 'without complaint' excuse when describing Steve...what could he complain about? He's getting the max, he's starting and getting as many minutes as he wants, he still gets more shots than anyone else, and never gets benched regardless of the number of boneheaded plays he makes in a game. JVG has made an offense based around our best offense weapon,Yao...if Steve isn't down with that, then he's clearly not a winner. If anyone should complain its the organization that has watched Steve fail to consistently excute a smooth fastbreak in his 5 years in the league. Does that sound like a player that works on his game a lot?
Even those that have played against him know that Steve is bad at running an offense and loses his composure easily. Its been stated many times in post game interviews...where have you been? Besides, can't we judge Steve by comparing him to his peers and past performances, or is that not 'right', since we didn't play against him and all?
Dang....Mark, you're NOT loyal to the team, Rockets. You're loyal to STEVE per se. You're loyal to STEVE per se. You're loyal to STEVE per se. You're loyal to STEVE per se. You're loyal to STEVE per se. You're loyal to STEVE per se.
I think that, lately, Steve begins to understand the criticism from JVG, fans, and others. He either has to adapt his game or hear about trade rumors daily. To Steve's credit, he hasn't crumbled under the pressure or acts like AI. If he keeps improving, the criticism goes away. That's how the system works.
Or, turning it around, what's with the hyper-attachment to one player? I'll be here if the Rockets released the entire damned team tomorrow and signed a bunch of CBA players. I'd be pissed and calling for the entire front office's head: but I'd still support the team. I don't like Francis. I did for his first 3 years. Last year, I was uncertain. This year, I'm certain that he's a good but not great player who thinks he's great. That's no crime, in and of itself, but when said player doesn't really fit in... it's pointless. And Francis cannot fit in with "Van Gundy's system." It's not possible. Sorry. No matter how much he tries, wants to, or practices... he never will. You see, he can't hit the 3. And in an inside out game, to be a player who really "fits..." you have to be a good 3 point shooter, which Francis never has been. He can be successful in JVG's system. He can be a good player despite the system. He can lead the Rockets to a lot of wins. But a similarly talented player with a different skills set would fit better. None of that has anything to do with "disloyalty" or being a fairweather fan. Take the self-rightous **** elsewhere.
Like you said, those are fake fans, just ignore them. We real fans are here to support the team, not just Yao, I am personally proud to say that I've been a fan of the rockets through good times and through bad times, I was even a fan during the Cato era, so for the fake fans, by the time all of you are gone, i will still be proudly supporting the Rockets.
what a crock. Everyone is entitled to be p!ssed off at any player who is underachieving, its called being a fan and passionate about the team. is this yours because you need to get off it?
Mark, Glad you softened up a bit. I understand that you are a glass is half full guy, and appreciate that you like Steve as a Rocket. Me? I am clearly a glass is half empty guy, and am prone to criticize when a player is stinking up the court. Yao, Steve, Cat, anyone they are all apt to catch my wrath. This BBS is a catharsis for many of us, here in Austin and in my line of work, there are hardly any fans to talk to and to vent about my beloved team. I am sorry if I came down too hard, but to question someone's loyalty because they are critical is just a bit much, IMHO. I am sure you are every bit of a fan as me, and glad to have you on board. Just remember that Fan means fanatic, even if you are half full or half empty. DD
Exactly, fans have the right to criticize, and no one is immuned. Not Yao, not steve, not JVG, not even some individual posters. Usually, when fans criticize players on this BBS, it's right on the money. So no need to call other people disloyal for expressing their opinions.
What SF bandwagon is Mark talking about? There are a couple of Stevie haters on the board who just refuse to like the man for whatever he does, but most of us have always given props to SF. If you wanna bash the callers for being disloyal, go do it on the radio, where it s all about individuals. This is a team game, and we discuss the TEAM on this board
