Does any of they experts I have now awaken now of a game for PS3 or PC that is similar to "Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm"? This is my favorite single player game. Slow moving, position your AI team on GUI maps. Really awesome stuff. Any help really appreciated. I know most shooter games are either Online Kill everyone games or fast paced FPS games.
Just Windows Media Player 11. Don't have to even have the program open, I just set up sharing and away I go. Works with xvid/divx/avi, as well as mpeg and wmv that I know of. Vast majority of what I stream to my PS3 are xvid.
Nope, the PS3 does it all. My computer is in entirely another room. No pressing play on the computer or even needing to have any programs running. PS3 just streams it straight from the computer.
Yep, Media Sharing is awesome. You don't have to do anything after its set up, as long as your computer is on
It's a hideously simple one-time setup. I'm assuming your PS3 is already hooked up to your network. Open WMP11. Right-click "Library," then hit "More Options..." From there, go to the "Library" tab, and hit the "Configure Sharing" button. A box will come up that lists devices. Check the "Share my media to:" box. "Unknown Device" (which is what your PS3 shows up as) should be in there. Select it and hit the "Allow" button. Then hit the "Settings" button and make sure you're sharing all the types of media you want. Close the device list. Hit the "Monitor Folders..." button in the original "Library" tab that should still be up on your screen, and a list of folders will display. Hit the "Add" button, and just add all the folders that you want WMP11 to monitor. ...and you're done. Simple. You don't ever have to open WMP11 again if you don't want to. As long as you place your media in monitored folders, your PS3 will see it on next reboot. Let me know if it works or not. It should.
Isn't it, though? I was totally geeking out about this when I first set it up. It's not just absurdly useful, it's damn cool too. Hold on... I'm STILL geeking out about it.
I was having a lot of fun messing with the converting options back when the feature was first offered, but the PS3 didn't support several formats (WMV and divx mostly). Not much point now though, which actually somewhat disappoints me. So boring just to simply stream the exact file over. It would be nice if they added the feature for the PS3 itself to act as a media server as well. I've actually wanted to use media streaming and PSP remote play together, but I haven't had much of a chance to play with it. As cool as streaming media to the PS3 is, it is probably even better to stream media to portable devices on the road.
Interesting. My PS3 wouldn't stream some of my movies. I was under the impression that the PS3 couldn't display certain streamed movies (despite the fact that it could play them if copied directly to the hard drive). The movies that wouldn't stream for me are in .avi format and appear to be compressed with the divx codec. I did a little research and it looked like I wasn't alone with this issue though.
I don't think the PS3 can play all types of divx files. I forget which ones exactly cause a problem, but I think I remember reading about it somewhere. I haven't really messed with it much to figure out more.
I really don't understand it but I cannot see my PS3 when I open media sharing. I hae the PS3 on my network and have been downloading demos and stuff but for some reason my computer cannot see it.
Hmmm... so is your PS3 plugged directly into the wall, or are your computer and your PS3 both connected through a router?
try searching for media servers on the ps3 and then at the same time.. see if it pops up on wmp11 If not use the new Google Media Server you can have Youtube streamed onto your XMB bar I have both media servers set up on my ps3
That's bizarre then, can't think why they wouldn't be able to see each other. Never had that issue with the PS3. My 360 though, that's another story... Try googling that problem. I'm sure you're not the only one. Maybe enable DMZ on your router? That was one of the first things I did.
I had to temporarily put my PS3's IP into the DMZ on my router in order for my PC to see it. Weird but it seemed to work. After I did everything I needed to do I took it out of the DMZ
