Uh, what does my appearance have anything to do with this? Let's see a picture of you, huh? Gosh, people are so shallow.
I had a feminist teacher...she made a joke about how men could never finish what they started. I said something like "learn how to drive!" She gave me like 2/10 for participation (which for some dumbass reason was worth 20% of the course). But I still passed! good times
Here's an interesting take... “What do you have against feminists?” Most people who ask me this question believe that feminists simply want to advance the interests of all women. No, they don’t. Contrary to popular perception, the modern feminist movement is not a movement to promote freedom and equality for all women. It is a rigid ideology dictating what women should think and how they should live. Women who don’t parrot the views of NARAL Pro-Choice America – especially conservative and religious women -- are shunned from the feminist clique. I’ve known this since my freshman year of college, when I cheerfully referred to myself as a “conservative feminist.” After all, what kind of forward-thinking girl wouldn’t embrace a movement that encouraged women to be strong, independent, and outspoken? I certainly wanted to be all of those things. I realized about five minutes into my first women’s studies class that wasn’t enough. To the contrary, the feminist clique had a litany of complaints against me and other non-liberal women. We didn’t brand ourselves “Vagina Warriors” or chant obscenities in a crowded auditorium (see the feminist play The Vagina Monologues for details). We weren’t offended by suggestions that men and women are innately different. And, perhaps most egregiously of all, we didn’t consider the “right” to butcher unborn children essential to our liberty. The message from feminists was clear: accept our dogma, or remain permanently on the outs. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1841227/posts And this was written by a WOMAN at that! theSAGE
I would tell you to get even, but men have too good a thing going on. We get to take our cake and have some pie.
I consider myself a feminist and have said so here many times, mostly in D&D. Needless to say, I agree with you (yes, I'm a guy, married to a very successful woman who put some holes in that "glass ceiling" herself). Just realize where you are... a sports site mostly populated by guys, mostly guys under 40 (hell, under 30), which doesn't exactly equal a balanced sample of humanity. Having said that, most of the men in this world are worse than those you typically find here..
"Where have all the cowboys go-o-oooonnnnneeeee...?!?????" "I kissed a girl, and I liked it... bla blah blah blah..." "na na, na na, na naaaaa naaa... i just lost my husband... and... i am a bitter woman... and i'm gonna start a fight... I'M GONNA START A FIGHT!!!" WTF. Why do we allow this crap? WTF. I leave for two days and effin' feminists show up. Norm. Cheers. What'd I win? Equality my ass. At least add some TEXT to your SMILIES. Where's no_answer or glass_half_full? xxshaypinkxx, rubytuesday, Isabel, hayesfan, etc.? Probably ironing their men's clothes... help this chick out, ladies...!
such a piling on from the "men" on this board towards one woman.. do i detect a rampant outbreak of prolonged coitus interruptus among the males in this thread..? perhaps just haven't run into that special someone.. and are suffering from constant anal sex refusal..?
Deckard, I respect you having read some of your older posts in older threads. But I hate to say it, but this notion of feminism just being about social, economic, and political equality with equal rights is simply NOT TRUE. If it was just that, then YEAH I'm sure loads of other guys would swear by being a feminist. But anecdotally, what I've noticed is that a good number of the feminists out there: Have a chip on their shoulder against: 1. Most religions 2. Most traditions 3. Most secular institutions (e.g. business, gov't, etc.) 4. And any man who supports any or all of the above Any you know what? It's the degree to which it's politicized as "the man holding the woman down" that makes it so damn polarizing, not to mention, destructive in relationships, imho. angrySAGE
^ I'm all for a good joke, but that's too far. Your wife flew off the handle without much good reason. Maybe there's something deeper behind all that feminist rage. I agree with this: And I'm glad to know that some random poster thinks I'm hideous. Maybe he can grace the board with a picture of himself? Facebook? Myspace? Doubt it.
theSAGE, you are, sadly, operating based on your own personal experience, which is understandable, but is also a picture painted with as broad a brush as those women like to use that bother you the most. For every "outspoken, raising hell cause I'm a feminist, dammit!!" chick you've run across (my quotes), there are hundreds of women, in my opinion, quietly fighting the good fight against gender discrimination. My wife has quietly fought against it and would be seen as a reason that gender discrimination is dead, that is, until you ask her whether it's still out there. After laughing, she'd say, "Of course it isn't dead! Most men are simply oblivious to what's going on around them." And thanks for the kind words! You're one of the folks I always make a point of reading when I see you've posted something.
To get feminist for a minute here, I think hitting a woman makes you a thug, and the glorification of the "pimp" lifestyle is one of the more stupidest things about modern American culture. I mean really? When is it necessary to hit a woman? Never. Not unless for some bizarre reason she is pummeling the hell out of you and you need to defend yourself for fear of your life. I may joke around and make sexist jokes for laughs, but I honestly believe hitting a woman is a cowardly thing to do.
