Im making 10k a year less :( I had to get something but it sucks when I think about it. My last job the company went under and I liked it and it paid me well.. now I feel like Jack Bauer working at Chuck-e-Cheeze. :( Everyone is happy on pay day except me. Someone else please say you share my pain!!

Edit: Doh can't edit the options on the poll but I know i forgot to put 1000-4,999, 5000 - 9999, etc  So if you made exactly that whole amount less then make me feel better by rounding up! :D

Over $20,000 in March of 2005. Ouch is right.

I got about a third of it back after the first year, and should get another third back next March. On the plus side, I work a LOT fewer hours, and I have every weekend off.

When I got into Video games, I took a paycut to move from Houston to Austin.

My last year in Houston, I earned about $110,000 that year, I took a job making $36,000 a year in video games.

My wife, thought I was nuts, but it worked out better than we could have hoped.

Surprising, I thought your pay cut would be closer to a billion dollars.

Wife and I have both taken over 20K for opposite reasons. Always works out.

    Yep yep.....

I have never paid myself too much, I make money flipping the business.

Equity is where the play is for me, not salary.

I only teach VY fans, or JVG haters, but you must be one or the other.

    :D

All kidding aside, it is all about not being afraid to fail, if you can get over all the people saying you can't do something that is half the battle.

People are afraid of the unknown, or of risk, to me you have to risk to succeed.

Now, once I built up a bit, say a good nest egg, then it becomes about doing it again with OPM.....(other peoples money), which is where I am now....

So, I set up the company, get investors, and then we all make money on the flip, or sale.

    At least, hopefully....

I dare you to find a bigger JVG hater then I.

Now give me a job, so I can brag next year how I got a million dollar pay cut.

havent taken much of a pay cut, cuz plainly I make squat diddle and havent had much to lose in the first place.

I've still learned you can start out making $40k and be happy.
then make $75k and be happier.
then go to $55k and be miserable

Its like, wouldnt it be nice to remember that there was life worth living when you only made entry-level moeny? That doesnt mean lower expectations and be a roaming hippie, or settle for less living the life of struggling college student. Just that things sometimes dont go to plan and you at least DID get a 2nd chance that was 85% as good as the last thing, when some people get NONE.

Best advice in the world. No risk, no reward.

Especially in IT. If you ain't learnin', you ain't earnin'.

Took a $20k plus paycut going from private practice to being a DA. Best decision I ever made. I'd choose doing something I love over money anytime. Not to mention the difference between 40 hour weeks and 60 hour weeks.

You could live in Austin on $36K/year? That must have been a loooooong time ago.

Oddly enough, the only paycut I ever had was about $7,000 a year, and it came from the time I left my co-op job I had during college ($15/hr) and the best job I could find AFTER I graduated ($12/hr). It really, really sucked...but the bottom dropped out of the IT industry at that time and I was up a creek.
