A combination of a lot of things, economic, safety, environment, health care, education and so on.

Some things are more important to others individually, think of a ski enthusiast trying to live in Florida or a surfer trying to live in Colorado.

When looking at large populations of people, 3 things like life expectancy, poverty rates, and crime rates for example give a decent outlook on a number of things.

You mentioned rent and gas for San Diego as an economic measure but what does it mean when both Texas and Florida have higher poverty rates then California? Things are more expensive in California but people are paid more, and at the end of the day there’s less poverty.

The average person isn’t doing better economically in Mississippi despite the “cheaper”mortgage or gas, the essentials still wind up being more expensive then it is for a person living in Texas on a Texas salary.

    This is your definition breh
You can get nice or better beaches in Florida

but your average person needs to not be flipping burgers or serving me Starbucks to enjoy living in San Diego

I would say San Diego is the best major city in California
For the pandemic, people choosing not to flee to Texas or Florida moved from San Francisco and Los Angeles to San Diego
And the local San Diego people hated those people
There’s an uptick in homelessness and crime
    Even bill Walton noticed

WalletHub just released its report on

The ranking is based on 30 key indicators of happiness, ranging from the depression rate to the income-growth rate to average leisure time spent per day.

there are no Tx / Fla cities ranked in the top 10; can't be that happy if you live in the highest uninsured states, or in area w one of the highest % of homeless

highest ranking Tx city is Plano at 29th place; for Fla, Pembroke Pines at 37th place.

Fremont, CA is ranked the happiest city in American, a repeat of 2022. there are 4 Calif cities in the top 10, i live in the 6th happiest city in America, Irvine, CA,
which has also been ranked (by other publications) as the most diverse and safest city,

Florida doesn't have a state income tax, which at first sounds nice except when you realize how much they ding you everywhere with fees and taxes. Real estate taxes are high, you have to pay a special streamer tax on your Netflix and any other digital streaming channel you get, all the roads are tollways, the sales tax is high, electricity has all these taxes, your drainage is taxed, fees everywhere - freaking $80 to get a 2 year registration sticker for your car - in NY that was $37. The nickle and dime you hear so I think the "no state tax" thing is just hype.

This may be shocking, but where I live has nothing to do with whether a state is red or blue.

Neither. Florida is a backwards state and Texas has so many crazies.
