Traj: As much as I don't condone the killing of animals, I agree with you on this one. It is hardly a bold statement to say, "Don't kill a defenseless animal" when you walk into the store and buy the dead meat all the time. Outstanding point.

    That's why I don't eat meat. [IMG]

TraJ, yes no doubt I eat deer meat, as well as other meats. As with any sport, you can choose to abuse it, or be responsible.
I, like a majority of hunters are responsible. We study safety, abide by wildlife laws, and treat our game with respect. Did yall know that hunters like me help to contribute to wildlife restoration?
Hunters pay for millions of dollars in license and game tag fees that pay for wildlife management. Hunters do more to aid wildlife than any group in America. Hunters have contributed over 5.5 Billion for conservation in less than 60 years. Hunters contribute everytime they buy a federal duck stamp to wetland programs.
Let me give you some numbers which are fact:
Canada Goose- 1940's: 1.1 million. Today: 3.76 million.
Trumpeter Swan- 1935: only 73 est. Today: 900.
    Wild Turkey- 1900's: 100,000. Today: 4.5 million.
    WhitetailDeer- 1900: 0.5 million. Today: 18 million.
    Rocky Mountain Elk- 1900: 41,000. Today: 800,000.
    Pronghorn Antelope- 1950: 12,000. Today 1.1 million
As you can see the facts speak for themselves. Today, hunting continues the tradition commonly practiced by our forefathers. For those of you who don't realize it, hunting is now symbiotic with the management and preservation of our wildlife. My point? more people would support hunting if they knew who was picking up the bills for successful conservation as mentioned above!---THE HUNTERS.

That's a perfect example of why you gotta respect the game. Cool story!

The worst of the so-called non-sports is by far deer hunting. What kind of jackass has the stones to lay out bait for starving animals, build a camouflaged condo to hide in so the deer can't see him, bathe in deer urine so the deer can't smell the stench of the 2 day old chicken wings smeared on the bright orange safety vest he's wearing, then wait until some half witted deer walks into the sites of his high powered fully automatic rifle and call it a SPORT?! How is this a sport? No. Drop one of these inbreds into the bush blindfolded and naked with a 3 day walk back to civilization and let him go one-on-one with the antlers. Then maybe I'll call it sporting.

I am against SPORT hunting. There is no reason for that, other than the desire to see a living creature die. If you intend to USE the deer meat, rather than just mounting a head on your wall, then its not so bad. I am not against people hunting for necessity. If I couldn't go and buy meat at the store, I would probably hunt too. What sickens me is the people who do not NEED to hunt, but do just for fun. What is it? Is it the thrill of using a gun?? You could do that at a targeting range. The only reason other than eating would have to be a desire to kill. That scares me. Killing for no reason scares me, no matter what animal is being killed.

I was referring to George Dubya with that comment.
Plus, I originally made only one comment. I did not drag it out for 30 posts. I didn't demand a reply. No one had to respond, it was a stupid reply anyway. I didn't start a bloody political debate, either.

Then don't reply to a thread asking for the best type of hunting rifle. Start your own thread discussing the pro's and con's of killing deer.

And don't call other posters 'moron'.

My Winchester .270 and I will be leaving in the morning for the deer lease. Wish me luck fellow hunters.

BTW, I could not imagine life as a vegetarian. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Good Luck! I went ahead and put a Winchester .270 model 70 (Black Shadow, I think - WITH A SCOPE INCLUDED!) in layaway this evening. Next week may be the last time I use the trusty, old antique. ...The ammo is starting to get way too expensive for 7.65 Arg

Anyone hear refuse to exterminate their house because of their respect for life? Just curious.

Cool, ROXRAN! That's the same exact gun I have. I've had nothing but success with it. I hope you enjoy it.

I started the Atkins diet this week.

Already lost six pounds and feel better than I have in months.

Actually, yes. I stopped using an exterminator several years ago. Whatever bugs I find, I put back outside. I also don't use any types of chemical pesticides or herbicides in my yard.

I assume that sounds crazy to most poeple, but its really been working out fine. Funny thing is, when you stop poisoning "nuisance" bugs, you also stop poisoning the other creatures that feed on them. The whole cycle is allowed to regain its equalibrium.
