Calhoun has said he thinks Rudy needs another year of college ball to work on the flaws in his game, but he has also acknowledged that he would be a fool to pass up a guaranteed top-5 selection. Usually, players follow Calhoun's advice because of his track record, the lone exception being Andrew Bynum last year. I'd say there's an 85% chance he declares. If he had won a NC this year, it would have been 100% without question.

I agree with you except for two things:

1 You can say "all he has to do is learn to create his shot and he'll be dynamic in the league" about [name your own player], not just Rudy Gay. I would venture to say if he can't create off the dribble against college players he probably won't ever be good at it on the NBA level. Creating off the dribble is a coveted skill and most NBA players who do it successfully also did it before they got to the NBA.

2 I disagree with you about the reason for his lethargy. To me, it isn't very hard to see Rudy Gay isn't the most motivated player out on the floor. No matter how talented they are (or aren't), players who consistenly make a difference during the late stages of critical games have an extra gear other players don't have. They just happen to snag those key rebounds, get the key steals, make the huge defensive play, hit the clutch baskets or sometimes they just "take over" games. Rudy Gay doesn't have this gear. Still, he will be the most polished and talented American player in this year's draft. If the Rockets get lucky, move up a few spots and he's still available, they MUST take him.
