Houston sucks... We might have a great variety of restaurants, but I don't feel any of the restaurants are that good. Before I went to Orlando, I thought our restaurants were a definite selling point as well, then I went to a place that might not have as much variety, but their restaurants were so much better. Chevy's in Orlando beats the hell out of any Mexican restaurant in Houston as far as I'm concerned. Houston does have it's positives, like the frontage roads, cheap living, and NASA. The weather can be nice at times, but it can also suck like it did a few days ago. I don't think the chicks are that hot either, and doesn't Dallas have more strip clubs? I swear everywhere I turned in Dallas, I saw a strip club...
Astroworld is definitely one of the most underrated amusement parks in the country. You NEVER hear about Astroworld on TV or when people mention great amusement parks. Too bad Texas Tornado had to go...awesome coaster...
Because of Jobs, genius. Everyone knows that, we're only the energy capital of the world. Do you really think people from Japan are coming to see our great frontage roads? I love Houston, but this is not a tourist city.
Way to take that quote out of context and try to make me look stupid.. I admitted that we don't have a big tourist trade..or did you forget to take your Ridalin today and couldn't keep your attention fokassed enough to get thru that entire sentence.....genius. jeez.
I really disagree with you on your restaurants point. I've spent the past 3 years travelling the country on business (almost every week out of town), and I stand by my claim that Houston's restaurants are fantastic and we are really spoiled. I'm not sure what your tastes are, but I think you've got in wrong on that point.
Agreed. I think that sums it up pretty well. Pretty much everything mentioned bodes well for someone living here. (Cost of living, Medical Center, feeder, titty bars etc..) Whenever friends come and visit, I have a hard time finding places that show how great this city is. I tell them about all the great stuff, but they are looking for a fun vacation and only complain about the weather.
The best thing about Houston? The women. And, in general, the people. For a big city, the people are pretty friendly.
Are you trying to say that there are people who don't consider titty bars to be art houses?? Surely you jest!
I've got to agree. I've also travelled the country and the world, and Houston wins for food, hands down.
I'd like to take a moment to say that not being able to edit our posts is a fantastic way to get my post count up.
I'm certainly not saying that other cities don't have great food. There are fantastic restaurants in fantastic cities all over the world. But on average, for quality and variety of choices, especially measuring this per capita, Houston is the best.
LA is a better city for restaurants. They have got more ethnic communities than you can shake a stick at. Boston is another good city for restausrants, about equal to Houston, except there is a shocking lack of Tex-Mexican restaurants. El Torrito, anybody?
I think Houston has great variety in restaurants. Variety is good, you can have any sort of dish you desire in this city...which is cool. I just don't think there's a lot of excellent food. Maybe it's due to me being poor, but when I go to the "better" restaurants, I don't feel their quality justifies their price. A-Train, Astroworld's okay, it's definitely not one of the better parks in the country though. I can't think of any of the names of better parks, but I know there's one in Ohio, a couple in California that come to mind as being better than Astroworld. I don't even think Astroworld is in the top 3 of Six Flags parks...
I didn't say that Astroworld was the best park, just that it doesn't get the recognition of some of the better parks. Viper, Ultra Twister, Cyclone, Serial Thriller, Greezed Lightnin', Batman, Mayan Mindbender, XLR-8...that's 8 major coasters, not to mention Dungeon Drop, Tidal Wave, Thunder River, the two new rides this year, and Waterworld is free of charge now...I've enjoyed every visit there, excluding rainy days, of course...
Some of ya'll complain about the lack of tourists like that's a bad thing. A cities that are tourist locations always complain about "all those *(&$^*$&$*ing tourists" in their cities. Ironic, huh? Besides, our transit system is a joke for a city of Houston's size. In other words, more tourists = more (rental) cars = more traffic. Not good, so not good. BGM, yeah, you're speaking as a cheap person, Houston restaurants compare very favorably with anyone, anywhere.
Houston epitomizes urban sprawl. If you like highways, strip malls, and overbuilding, then it's the place to be. It may be one of the least scenic cities I have ever seen.
