This thread should be retitled with a poll : does Rudy suck at X's and O's coaching. I think he's finally gotten through to Cuttino, at least. Francis still appears stillborn as a playmaker, but pretty damn good for highlight reels, sometimes for the opposing team with TO's. I listened to the GSW radio broadcast and here's what they said about Houston : consciousless gunners, iso offense a challenge because no one else does it and the talent of SF.
I love how you criticize Rudy and say lets just copy the pick and roll from Utah as if it is something that Malone, Stockton, and Sloan just threw it in there and it worked great. There is a reason why they are the only team in the league who can win games like that. Its not the strategy its the players involved in it. Also, I can't wait to hear about people on this BBS complaining about the Rocket's boring two man game if they did institute the pick and role like the Jazz. Also, Yao is a few years away from being as automatic as Malone is at that 15 foot fadeaway shot. Ming's fadeaway does not look good right now and looks like it needs a lot of work since he gets no air when he jumps. Also, should Francis study the years when Kidd was only shooting in the high 30's from the field? Kidd was never the scorer Francis is and Steve will probably never be the passer that Kidd is. Francis should look at Payton who slowly became passer throughout his career. Sorry it doesn't happen overnight...it takes years. Why is Posey the ultimate starter? The guy has one of the worst shots in the world. Yes I think he is better than Rice, but he is FAR from ultimate. Finally...what coach is great at X's and O's? Name more than 3 coaches and why it is the coach who makes their players much better versus the players just making the coach look good. Also, I don't think Rudy was chosen as a head coach for the WBC's in 1998 because he is a moron. Did you see how bad the players on that team were?? They were still able to get a bronze unlike the players in 2002. He also got an Olympic gold too. I don't think the US picked him because he is a moron.
Have you ever played the post? I have. It's much easier for a right handed person to go left to right across the paint than right to left. From the left post, a right handed jump hook in the lane is much easier to accomplish. once you have your opponent leaning into the lane to guard against that hook, you've created room to use your left hand baseline (where there are less defenders to steal the ball) for a drive. You lost a lot of credibility with this question.
People always said that Mugsy wouldn't make because he would get posted up by oppsoing guards. The fact is that a turnaround, fadeaway is not the shot that you want your point guard to be taking, and good luck putting the ball on the floor against a guy that is so short and quicker tha lightning. Expecting your guard to post up is about as logical as expecting your center to be the best passer on your team...ooops
Simple answer, yes. But think about it. 6'3 Francis goes to the low block to post up. You think he's gonna meet a 5'5 Boykins down there? Nope.
I guarantee that if Sam Cassel, Gary Payton, Van Excel, Kidd and probably many more PGs would have IMMEDIATELY posted up a 5'5" guard. If they didn't have the ball they would have been yelling to give them the ball.
Behad, Thanks for letting us relive your glorious hoop past. I'm sure that your hook in the lane couldn't be stopped. I'm glad that I use to have some credibility with you. I will work harder to gain it back!Maloney use to turn the ball over forcing the ball to the left hand side EVERY time. He would dump it down and go through. Eight players would watch two guys go 1on1 on the Rox end all night. With $100 tix and Valet Parking you get pissed at Rudy's ISOs. Basketball is movement! 380, I will name 3 movement coaches. Phil, Nellie&Adelman. Those teams have movement and are succesful.
It took all three of them a while, though, even after they had their core players on the team already. So stop b****ing and enjoy the ride.
