FVV has always been a stop gap, Ime relies too much on him- Jalen is whom he is we need upgrades at both spots. Now maybe that is Reed and Cam - but neither are there right now. DD
This. FVV is our problem even more than Jalen, but Ime will play him until he drops. He can't keep shooting this bad all year, but he will still be slow walking the offense no matter what.
They are two problems that when combined, create a MUCH bigger problem. Jalen is a really awful SG....but if he was paired with a competent PG, it wouldn't be so bad. FVV has always been one of the most inefficient shooters in the league....but if he was paired with a competent SG, it wouldn't be so bad. Then there's the whole situation becoming even worse due to how incompetent Ime is when it comes to offense and running rotations. His focus is entirely on defense and running what amount to 7 man rotations....which makes the 7 guys he's leaning on all season even worse when it comes to shooting due to tired legs. It's just a cluster****, we need to bring in a coach that can teach Ime how to be a head coach instead of just a defensive coach.
We're out of the tournament, send Reed and Cam to Vipers to work at the 1/2 for the next 2-3 weeks. Hopefully they work on their games, confidence, and chemistry. Bring them back and start giving them backup minutes to see what we have. Beyond a trade, this seems to be our best internal option. This will also give Amen and Holiday more time in the backcourt as well. Need to do something, we can't survive with shooting this bad.
Fred just looks cooked. He's not THAT old, but he's had a lot of miles on him. Guards of his physical profile seem to drop off around his age. It's too bad that Schroeder is off the market now. He would have been a great stopgap if the Rockets were to move Fred.
The backcourt duo of Amen and Jalen Green looks promising based on those two games. Their chemistry and performance stood out. However, it feels like Fred might be holding back the full potential of some of our players.
Stone needs to decide who we are going to build around going forward, as late as next off-season. If he refuses to give up on Jalen then we need trade Sengun (I know, insane idea), for a dominant rebounder and defensive anchor. He can grab all the bricks we keep laying up and doesn't need to score himself. The better idea is to move on from both our starting guards so Sengun has space to operate and doesn't get collapsed on so easily knowing the perimeter threat isn't there. Yes, Sengun played terrible tonight missing so many easy layups he normally makes but he was being swarmed as well because OKC knew FVV and Jalen wasn't hitting anything. Also, DeAaron Fox is on a Kings team that's going nowhere with 1.5 years left on his contract. We need to do everything we can to target him either in FA or via a trade. He just entered his prime too. I would not mind paying a supermax for him because he's such a good fit for our team. Can score, facilitate, run fast breaks, defends solidly.
All we need from fred is to play the mike Conley role, he slows us down alot too. We were suppose to push the pace this year
Amen will be one-half for sure. Jalen will get every opportunity to be the other. I just hope Jalen gets a chance without FVV either with Amen in the starting line-up or from the bench.
Fred's ego might not allow him to stick around if they want him to take a major pay cut and be demoted to coming off the bench. It will probably also be hard on the coach to have His Guy (Fred) coming off the bench. Rather than go through the hard feelings and emotional stuff, perhaps it is best that they let Fred move on.
Yeah this is the issue. That's why I thought it was critical Stone gets a veteran pg at the trade market, someone who Ime is comfortable playing like a Malcolm Brogdon or Dennis Schroder. DS would have been a perfect fit since he is a defensive guy, shooting 39% from 3, a vet, and was one of the leaders on this team previously. His chemistry addition would have been pretty good on top of his play. And he only cost 2 SRs, hell I'd give one of our low FRP for him.
FVV isn't getting a paycut, rather we overpaid for him so he would go to the Rox instead of resigning with Toronto and also overpaid so he would accept the unguaranteed contract (turns out to be a genius move btw). With the way he is shooting I don't see Stone picking up his option, FVV will either settle for a more reasonable salary or he is out of here.
Just flagging that Fred is not the reason Jalen sucks. But clearly upgrading both backcourt positions would be ideal. since only minor moves are likely in-season, I wonder if Sexton or Brogdon would cost much.
