Cool. Just be careful with my times, my oven is weird and the 30-45 minutes may be too long or short for your oven so just have one foil package of cabbage you can check periodically. I like to cook mine until the edes turn slightly brown but not burnt and the entire slice is totally tender. Yummy! Sprinkle with hot sauce if you like it spicy.
Sounds great man, I think I'll try this. Do you use a full slice of bacon to wrap around each jalapeno half? And is whipped cream cheese different than the regular cream cheese that you can get in the tub? Oh and this is a stupid question, but do you only grill the bottom side of the jalapeno, or both sides?
Good recipe, but I like to cook my cabbage on the grill when I am smoking meat. It adds a good smoky taste to the cabbage
That's how I usually cook it, on the grill but I'll be cooking it in the oven this weekend because of all the meat that's going to be on the grill.
serrano chiles are delicious and spicier than japs. however, they are significantly smaller. maybe you are thinking of anaheim or poblanos?
50 piece nuggets from McDonald's. 2 orders of Supersized fries. My friend and I usually pull a 100 nuggets/4 Supersized fries during each of the last 3 superbowls (except last year, as I had to work) He's out of town, so I'm splitting the difference. Unless I'm off of work that whole day, or he is, and either of us can drive the 90 minutes one way or the other.
Yeah, you're right, not serrano. Not sure on the name, serrano was just the first that came to mind. Maybe poblano. Not entirely sure. I'd have to be in the store to see them, as net pictures are bleh. All I know is they were pretty big, but not all that spicy. Also skipped on the crab meat. Cheese and bacon good enough for me.
Cuz it stays in chunks. If you use regular crab meat, you have to blend it with the cream cheese, otherwise it falls out.
Full slice baby. Wrap that puppy! The whipped cream cheese, to me, is easier to use and shove in the cavity of the jalapeno half than the regular cream cheese. You can find it right next to the regular cream cheese at 99.9% of the grocery stores around here. When you use a full slice of bacon, it wraps the entire jalapeno half. I grill it on all sides.
here's an appetizer that will drive the party crazy: bacon (cut strips in half) pitted, cured dates roasted almonds (low-salt) toothpicks take an almond and shove it into the date where the pit used to live. take a slice (half) of bacon and wrap it around the stuffed date. hold it all together with a toothpick (piercing the bacon and the date, but not the almond.) broil until the bacon is fully cooked. using a broiler pan is best because most of the bacon grease drops through the pan. i know this sounds a bit strange. i thought the same thing when i first heard about this recipe. ever since the first time i served these puppies, my friends ask when i'm making them again. devildates is what some refer to them as...
I do the same thing except I use goat cheese instead of almonds. You can also use prosciutto instead of bacon.
I am going to do the bacon-wrapped jalapenos as well. I was thinking of doing the bacon-wrapped shrimp as well. But for a crowd of like 30 people, that could get expensive.
