No, your argument was that. if you are not athletic and explosive laterally, you cannot be a good defender in the NBA. in fact, your argument implies that if are not athletic and explosive, you will be man handled your entire career on the defensive side. we merely bring up battier, because he is clearly not explosive and cannot jump nearly as high as chase.

I agree, we dont expect him to be a lockdown defender.. but if he isnt, then thats ok. no expectations were let down. im not expecting him to be. as long as he isnt a defensive liability and manhandled his entire career, then he will surpass my expectations of him defensively.

I think it will play out like this.

Chase will be the first 3/2 guard off the bench for at least the first half of the season. Barring a injury of Battier or Ariza. If he keeps on lighting it up in the second half of the season Shane will have to watch his back, if that happens Shane will either loose his starting job and go back to the same style role he had in Memphis with Mike Miller or he will be traded.

What happened with Scola is good guide to how Adleman treats a talented first year player. He even followed a similar pattern with Brooks.

In short Shane will either end up being Chuck Hayes or Rafer Alston.

    Benched or Traded.

That could happen for sure.....but Landry is also a player to look at.....

Personally, I think it depends on this season's expectations, Chase can learn a lot from Battier on the defensive side of the ball, and they may want to take the entire year and have him do it, and trade Shane in the offseason.

The funny thing is that everyone on the Rockets could learn from Chase offensively, he just gets it.

He didn't deduce that he was not athletic after one game, he deduced it after seeing the color of his skin. Clearly this opinion is racist in origin. He even says as much in another post that says that the garm can't wait to bolster any white guy on the team, which is complete BS. All I see is the red of their jerseys.

As a way Adelman used him in his rookie year.....to compare to how Chase might be used.

Chase hasn't shown us anything more than Kyle Korver type play. Actually, Korver has proven that he can actually hit tough, contested shots. Chase is hitting open jumpers, good for him. But that doesn't warrant Allan Houston comparisons yet. Sheesh. Remember when Head and Novak were stroking it their rookie years too? Too bad they didn't bring anything else to the table or develop at all.

Btw, working with a good defender will not necessarily make you a good defender. Last year, Wafer worked really hard on his defense and had both Artest and Battier to draw knowlege from. He still played bad D. How many players league-wide have improved their defense over the years? If they did, by how much? Learning to play D is like learning to play point guard: most times you either have it or you don't.

There is a huge different between Wafer and Budinger.

    Budinger
    - High BBIQ
    - Coachable
    - Rational

    Wafer
    - Never stayed with any team
    - Head case with poor attitude
    - Dumb on the court (scorers are a dime a dozen)

Rockets are really high on Budinger, signing him to a late first rounder contract even though he was a mid 2nd rounder pick as a ROOKIE. Wafer has been discarded by every team he has every played for, INCLUDING THE ROCKETS.

But its not that he was standing in the corner waiting for the ball to come to him. He was running the offense and hitting his shots running around picks. Not to mention crashing with AB to get the easy lay up.

Like DD said, this kid just gets how the offense is supposed to run. Which is something amazing for a 2nd round rookie.

    somebody had to post this

The only thing that pic shows is how big a thug/loser/cheater/jacka$$/coward the guy who steps on him is. This worthless jerk couldn't beat chase on the court so he takes a cheap-shot while he is down.

I'm pretty sure I could step on a guys face that was lying down and not defending himself.... what a stud.

disagree. he never took over like he was able too, but he also played at arizona where they have a philosophy of sharing the ball. He scored more ppg than arenas did.

It's also his style. He is a subtle player.

In last years tourney, he played exceptionally well. He was the only one who showed up against louisville...and they couldnt stop him.

I think you can rule out "scrub". Because, he certainly doesnt suck. The only question is will he be a quality bench player or a starter, imo. He is and will be good enough to have a long nba career.

Seen him play in college including in person at Reed Arena. Arizona had to play zone at times just to compensate for him.

    Oh, just for him, huh?

LOL...come on man, he may be a better pro than college player......good players play even better when surrounded by other good players.

    particularly smart players....

yeah... this is bs. sorry. They played a lot of zone because of their lack of size. Chase was their second tallest player that saw significant time (the other, of coure, being Hill).

try feeding that ridiculous argument somewhere else.
