all you late comers to the game. People should have been excited about chase from the moment he was drafted.

Great pick and i still think its ridiculous a person with his talent and skill went so late in the draft. Pure comedy

His potential this season I would say about 10-12ppg.

I think the Barry and Jefferson comparisons are a little out there. Jefferson is much more athletic and Barry is a much better passer and ball handler. In Barry's younger days he was also faster and more explosive than C-Bud.

I see him being a lite version of Rip.

I like the fact that he was running with Brooks quite often. This should net him some easy baskets as well, if he can learn to finish strong. He'd make a sick bench along with Landry and Lowry. If he plays along with Battier or Hayes, guys that can bail him out on help defense, even better.

He's taking a shot at you, as long as Chase outscores his man it's fine, but when Kobe does it against Battier...you get the point.

Was he any worse defensively than Jermaine Taylor?

You don't need to have great lateral quickness or explosiveness to be a solid defender. See Shane Battier.

    In fact (link):

“Yeah, I’ve been trying to pick Shane Battier’s brain as much as possible and ask him as many questions as I can, especially on the defensive end. I’m always asking him, ‘How do you do this? What do you do?’ because he’s such a great defender. He thinks that he doesn’t know all the right answers but his answers are pretty good; you can tell that by the way he plays defense. So I’ve picked up a lot of things already just by listening to him.”

For his part, Battier is only too happy to help.

“I’ve tried to point out things you must do as an NBA defender,” he says. “Not everyone can do the things that a Ron Artest or a Bruce Bowen does. But there are certain things that every capable defender in the NBA does. There’s no reason (rookies) can’t be capable defenders now and improve every year. It’s just a matter of body positioning, understanding the angles that you want to give the opposing player and the angles you want to take away and just a few things that, if you learn, you can go out and might be able to fool people into thinking that you can actually play defense. That’s what I did and got better from there.”

I see, so comparing the best player in the game to a defensive specialist makes it apples to apples...oh wait...no it doesn't.

If it took Kobe 25 shots to score the both the 35 and the 28, then I'll take Shane scoring 7.

Frankly, I am a wait and see sort. Chase has potential but I am not willing to say that he will be the biggest difference maker on this team yet. If he is that is great, but he will be coming off the bench in most games and defenses will get much harder to overcome in the regular season, as will offenses.

Why do you guys keep comparing Budinger to Battier? By these requirements any wing in the league could be as good as Battier on defense. Guess what? Not happening. Its not happening. Just stop with it already. I could probably perform surgery if I studied. Will I? No. My beef is with people claiming Budinger is athletic when his only athletic attribute is to jump. That does not define an NBA athlete. What exactly are you guys trying to say about the guy? Y'all either have him pegged as some dynamic athlete or the Battier. Every year you guys set yourself up for failure with an incoming player. Its getting old.

It's probably already been mentioned but I am impressed with how comfortable Budinger looks handling the ball too. Ariza like Luther Head when he was here looks like he is going out of their comfort zone when he handles the ball but Budinger looks really confident doing it.

I think Budinger has starter potential too but I would like to see how he reacts to being defended by a good defender and when he is having a bad shooting night. So far so good though ... he looks like he is playing the Peja role.

He has better handles than Peja, I really think he has a high ceiling.

No one is expecting Budinger to be as good as Battier. You're claiming he'll never be able to defend his position because of his lack of athleticism -- and you deduced this after 1 preseason game. But if there exists a player with below-average athleticism who defends the same position better than 90% of the league, then that's enough to invalidate your argument.

Further, with Budinger being very willing to learn everything he can from Battier, and Battier being just as willing to teach, this is a perfect situation for him to improve his defensive positioning. Budinger strikes me as a player with the right attitude, work ethic, and basketball IQ to develop into a passable defender. He's surrounded by a bunch of players and coaches that will foster good defensive principles.

Greatest of all time. Move over Mike. They might as well shut down the NBA because no other player will come close to him.

He has always had a high ceiling, in high school and in college. But he never took it to the next level.

I agree he was a steal for sure and he will be important in the Rockets plans, but id wait longer to take a stand on whether he will be an all-star or a scrub.

Sure, but nothing wrong with getting excited about a player that looks like a steal, it is what FANS do....
