I pretty much came to that conclusion while watching him play at Arizona. Tonight just confirms my gut feeling.
All he needs to play defense is to be as good at defense as Battier is? Right thats gonna happen..
Budinger can jump and looks loose. He is not fast, he is not quick, he is not explosive. He can jump. He isn't athletic.

A solid bench player for the first half of season, He needs to work his ass off in order to be a contributor for the 2nd half tho. Rookie wall is hard to break.

Steve Novak was draining shots in the preseason too but the regular season not so much.

This isn't necessarily all true. He was running around to get open looks. I remember saying to myself that he looks decently fast out there.

I also feel like he is athletic. His vertical alone makes him athletic.

If I have to use an NBA comparison, I'd say Jason Kapono. As for his role on the team, I'd be really happy if he can simply be a contributor off the bench.

But the key to his success is DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. He doesn't need to play it at a Battier/Ariza level. But he needs to at least well above Steve Novak level.

Agreed. If he could average defensively, then surely, he'll make something out of himself.

I like his potential. But his success doesn't come as a complete surprise, remember that Bud was considered a top 3 coming out of HS. If he had come out his freshman year of college he would have been a lottery pick.

What is surprising is the rockets being able to pick him up so late in the 2nd. He's got one of the smoothest shots and an all-star like composure. That said he does have work to do on the defensive side.

    2009-2010
    12mins avg
    5points avg

Can't see him getting more than this with Battier, Ariza and T-Mac on the team. Long-term I can see him having a Brent Barry type career getting a number of last minute 3pt bombs. Best I can see him avg is 12points. He's not going to be a go-to player, he's not quick enough to drive and not able to create for himself.

Objection. His athleticism and shooting abilities were praised from day one.

Agreed. What's this crap about NBA players not being athletic? Do these guys even know what an athlete is? There is simply no way you excel on college basketball, get drafted into the NBA and NOT be an athelete.

By the way, athletes are athletic.

Nope, try again. I didn't say he had to be as good at defense as Battier. He has more athletic tools than Battier. You said he didn't have the tools to do it.
Battier, a slow unathletic player, has the physical and athletic tools to play defense. Then, Chase has the tools to play defense also.

It's crazy that some on here don't see the obvious potential of CB.
Already he plays very well within the flow of the game. Yes there is a long way to go, but he forces nothing. He looks very smooth for someone playing
their first pro game. He got the start for a reason. RA could have just as easily started Taylor who looked lost. CB has a great stroke, good vision,
moves well without the ball, pretty decent handles. He will Score, he will fit in with any lineup IMHP. His defense will get better, why, because he moves well enough to be an average defender, and he is putting in the work to improve it. How good will he be? I think that's up to him. Can you imagine the possibilities of him playing off a star or two? And we have him for the next four years at what less than 1,000,000 per. I think he is a player

The guy was an olympic volley ball player. He has praised day one for is athleticism. He has a super sweet shot with a quick release. He shows great poise, an ability to run the fast break, and makes good decisions with the basketball. Everyone can read between the lines with your comments. He's white so he can't be an athelete. Fes up Ziggy.

Buddinger will contribute this year and be a starter in this league.

I can't believe no one sees the semblance with Dirk Nowitzki. This guy if anything reminds me of Dirk. Am I way off on this?

No, I can see some similarities....but Budinger is more smooth and shorter, and has greater elevation.
