He's got the perfect defense teacher in Battier. He will be more of a cerebral defender like Battier than a phyical defender like Bowen. Battier can defend players with twice his speed. Budinger has a high bb iq. He should be able to anticipate what the opposing player will try and guard it like Battier.

Nah Ariza is a starter imo. He doesn't creat his own shot sure, but his defense is extremely good and he runs the fast break like crazy.

McGrady hasn't shown that he can play long either. Before you know it, he'll be sitting out games for his shoulders, knees, back, ankle, and/or a hangnail. Then, it will be Artest, Battier and Wafer again. Oops...I mean Ariza, Battier and Budinger. ;-)

He seems cool and calm, has a nice jumper.. smooth like butter. I'm excited to see him blossom. I call a window seat.

I don't understand the Steve Novak comparisons. Even if it's based on his skin color, Brent Barry is a better comparison.

Yes it is.....a very apt comparison...moves well without the ball, shoots well and passes smartly.

Chase is a lot like a young B. Barry.

He'll become like Mike Dunleavy Jr., an efficient and smooth guard that's constantly being overlooked or underrated or even ignored.

Does not have the tools to play NBA level defense. Sorry. Never gonna happen. Situational player.

Brent Barry always had really good handles and was best suited at PG. I think if you gotta use a white guy, chase is more like Mike Miller or Korver. Honestly, he seems to most resemble someone like Eddie Johnson or even Allan Houston (eventually).

It's pretty hard to make that claim so early in the preseason. I think he can at least be decent if he gives it his all.

That is not a prediction that is a certainty.

I like the houston comparison. I've said mike miller not barry. Barry was more ball handler and setup man vs a scorer. We will see in time what he can be.

And Battier has the athletic tools to play NBA level defense? Chase is more athletic than Battier. That's all he needs to play defense.

    Chase has much potential from what he put on display tonight;
    - 7 of 10
    - good enough defense in his first NBA game to stay on the floor
    - Adleman says he is impressive
    - Justice says he has poise not often found in rookies
    - his shot was also hot in summer league
    - he doesn't hesitate to take good shots in the flow of the game
    - runs the floor
    - moves w/o the ball
    - displays great BB IQ on the floor

His potential is vast right now. He seems like an all around, multi-skilled player that will have an extensive, prolonged career.

Budinger has good size, is reasonably athletic, seems to have good basketball iq and can hit a jumpshot at a pretty high level. The guy is going to be a solid roleplayer at the least, but I'm not sure he can cross over to star caliber without some better ballhandling and improving his defense.
