He is the same guy and he is even using the same system (which is really what got the Bulls and Lakers those titles...the system that isn't his....that and having all that talent). The difference is he doesn't have the same championship talent on his team. Similar to LB in Detroit & LB in NY.

Shaq won without Phil and Pip came damn close if the Blazers didn't lose that big lead to the Lakers in game 7.

Jordan and Shaq are two of the greatest winners of all-time. Pippen won without Jordan and later without Phil, so he's a winner too. Now Kobe hasn't made the playoffs without Phil and he hasn't gotten out of the first round since Shaq left, so I don't consider him a winner (which really just shows how great Shaq is). Phil gets way too much credit for being the coach of these all-timers. If he was so awesome he would be able to do something with these Lakers.

Well, Lakers finally win at home against the young but feisty Blazers. The Blazers are a solid team, but they're way too young to know how to consistently win and close out games.

Kobe was in one of his 'zones' and just couldn't miss (literally made every crazy shot he put up late in the game).

Yes but that crap won't happen on the road with players with more experience. It took miracle shots to beat the blazers at home in OT

Ho Hum not impressed, but the jock sniffers will come out calling him the MVP again totally ignoring the garbage he displayed over the past 2 weeks.

OK, Kobe scored 65pts and finally beat the Blazers at home.

That is the Kobe I have been waiting for. Stop that "trust your teammates and share the ball" crap. You can't trust your teammates when they don't even trust themselves. You have to what you should to get a win.

Lakers is obviously still in a deep slump. They are desperately need a win and Kobe delivered. It is about time.

apparently the only thing ailing the lakers is kobe not scoring enough... he just dropped 65 and lakers win. i really want to see more of these games :D even though he's not a rocket it's still exciting when it happens

Well, i'm impressed. Yeah it was only against the Blazers, yeah it was against guys with not much experience and yeah it was at home, but DAMN. Did you see the shots he hit? Holy... I don't know how he did that.

65 is a lot of points.

How could a guy like that let his team drop 7 straight?

Anyways yeah can't way for the Kobe wagon to show up. MVP talks just heated up.

If you're a true basketball fan, you gotta appreciate greatness, no matter where you find it.

I am happy for him, I think he desperately needed this one to uplift his spirits, Kobe has been sitting on the bench in past blowouts biting his lip and looking like he's on the verge of tears...I don't like seeing grown men cry.

I expect many kb24 haters will come out and bash him as ball hog and black holes.

Funny when Kobe is ball hogging, they usually win.

man it's nights like these i wish i had league pass this season. i saw he had 38 in the 4th and then sportscenter showed he had 50 but they were down 96-92 and then all of a sudden it was 98-98 and kobe had 56 so i wondered if he hit 2 3's and that's what they said happened. and then another 9 in OT. this is why all that "trust your teammates" stuff can be overrated. it's good in general but sometimes you just have to take over and say F everyone else and win the game, even if it means your teammates don't get involved. the lakers needed something to stop the slide, even if it was just portland.

and did the suns forget they had a game tonight? 6 and 2 from marion, only 6 assists from nash, 7 TOs from amare (though somehow he had 15 boards, more than half of the suns total of 28).

    tiger, who cares?

He asked for it. He wanted Shaq gone and got Phil fired right along with him.

He deserves all of the bruises he gets.

Taking about tears, I wonder how those bows felt to Manu and Jaric.

not off one game, we're not nash fans! (that was for you tiger :) )

why is it that people with mcgrady in their name seem to be huge kobe haters on this board (2 on this thread and it seems like at least one more). i mean i know they were compared for a while and kobe always had the better teams and got more credit, but damn.

well they had a good record when he scored 40+ last year and i'm pretty sure they've got a good record this year as well (edit: 6-3).

and he put 62 on the mavs in 3 quarters last year. they seemed pretty good when they made it to the finals.

edit: crazy stat on espn. kobe ties baylor with 3 60 point games, and apparently kobe, baylor, jordan (4), and wilt (32) are the only people in league history with multiple 60 point games. would've thought more would have done that.

He did a lot of things wrong in the past. He is still doing some stupid things nowadays. But this guy is a great player. I enjoy watching him play.

Also it was not all his fault that Shaq left LA. Shaq was demanding a contract extension for over 30 M. Lakers had no choice but let him go. It helped them in the long term and it helped Shaq as well because he moved to a much weaker conference, his annual vacation didn't matter that much and it saved him a lot of mileage. It is all good.

I m a Kobe hater but this is the kobe i like! The kobe who shoot a lots!

I hate kobe because he try so hard to act good and please the fans/media! Just be yourself, kobe, why so worry about people calling you dirty player?(Malone never cares about and he just play the way he played). Why so worry about people said you are ballhog and then try to pass more to please the critics in the expense of your own team's 'W'.

Just shoot the ball when you have to! You are a superstar! You shoot more and team lose then you take all the responsibilities like a man and why care so much about others calling you selfish?

Of cos a high IQ basketball wont forced shots, under certain circumstances you still have to pass the ball to open teammates like T-mac to Head in the clippers game and also Jordan to Kerr for win type of situation!

By the way, Kobe, I still hope your team stay at 7th so i can watch and enjoy the lakers-suns series! :D

    Wow, from Yahoo recap:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap;_ylt=Ana1wIfuNYtaeg61CQ_.yh.8vLYF?gid=2007031613

"It was the second highest-scoring game of Bryant's career and his third with 60 or more points -- including an 81-point outing against Toronto on Jan. 22, 2006 at Staples Center. He also had 62 against Dallas on Dec. 20, 2005, at Los Angeles. The All-Star MVP has 15 games with 50 or more points, including four this season. The Lakers are 11-4 when he cracks the 50-point plateau. "

Obviously, Lakers' problem is Kobe not scoring enough. :)

Why am I a kobe hater? It has nothing to do with his skills on the court, that's just a cop out.

Pleas present some proof to me of what you say, dont call me names. They had a sorry record against the eastern conference the past 2 years. Don't give me that.
