i used to coach high school kids on teamwork activities. groups were randomly selected, usually up to about 10 kids per coach. alot of times no one knew anyone else because they were from different schools. anyhow, the first activity we always did was have them all stand in a circle and hold hands, each hand must be holding someone different. then, we'd ask them to untangle themselves to form a perfect circle without breaking the chain. this got everyone talking really quickly because they had to actually communicate with each other. with only 5 people, i'm not sure how well that work.

I remember doing this activity once. There were maybe 40-50 of us and we broke into different groups for this activity and an abundance of chocolates were on the line for the winner.

    We cheated. Chocolate was delicious.

Call it a lame attempt at humor if you want, but nothing'll get 'em talking like a power 20 minutes.

Ask each one what can be done to make there work done more efficiently and have the others reply. Some thick skin maybe needed.

We had one once where we had to build a big sub sandwich. Then, we ate it.

What we did at work was we had the members split into teams of 2.

then we had them sit next to each other, but in a back to back fashion so they couldn't see each other.

We gave one person a blank sheet of paper with a pen/pencil, and the other person a sheet of paper with a weird design. (like a random circle, some zig zag lines, the letter S, you know just random stuff)

Then we asked the person with the sheet that had the designs to describe what he/she saw to the other person without using any name of shapes (like circle triangle, or letters like Z, S...etc)

Well the person with the blank sheet had to draw out what the other person was explaining and they were given a 5 minute time limit.

Needless to say, it made for some hilarious situations afterward, and it really opened the eyes of the difficulty of communication among others. It was a great exercise with great results. Only 1 team out of 7 got it almost 100% perfect. There were a few near misses and some where just so wrong it was funny.

Afterward, everybody said that was a great exercise.

Oh I forgot to add that we flipped it around the other way as well so the person who did the describing first, did the drawing and the person who did the drawing first did the describing so everyone had a chance at each situation.

If smoking ganja wasn't illegal and generally frowned down upon by the corporate world, I would suggest smoking ganja with a group of 5 people.

They are not the same person. I'm next to positive that there are people that have met both of them.
