The Sound of Music ? Ok you want non-G-rated. Apocalypse Now. Goodfellas. Godfather II. Raging Bull. Maybe that's just my mom. . She'll kick your ass. She can also sort through Seven Samurai or Seventh Seal. My Mom kicks ass. .
I thought the same thing and then I saw your post right after that! LOL. I'm gonna have to go with "Easy Rider" then. Haha.
My Dog Skip. I'm getting the book to send to my Mom. She is widowed and somewhat lonely and is thinking about getting a dog. Plus she grew up in Mississippi. The movie is great and I assume the book is too-- written by the late Willie Morris. This is a real heart-warming movie set in Mississippi during WWII with Kevin Bacon, Diane Lane, and Frankie Munoz.
Finding Nemo was actually pretty good, although it is G-rated. I also second Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp's pretty good in that. Have you seen any of the other mocumentaries (like Best in Show)? There's also Waiting for Guffman and a couple others. Is Bruce Almighty out on video? I haven't seen it, but I've heard decent things about it.
If you want brownie points, The Joy Luck Club. Worked like a charm. But then again, I'm a girl, and Chinese...
Did you tear up? I actually saw that in the theater with my mother and some other relatives. I swear I was the only one in the theatre who wasn't in tears when it was over. I did enjoy it though. I don't know if it has great rewatch value.
I would also like to know what was particularly emotionally affecting about that movie. Maybe it's a girl thing, except I don't get it. My friends all said "watch it with your mom for a bonding experience". So I did. I don't think she "got it" either. Then again, my mother is pretty tough... and we actually showed her a little of "American Pie" over Christmas when it came on TV. She actually took it pretty well, considering...
The Emperor's Club would be a good one. Its one of those Dead Poet's Society/Finding Forrester type of movies that are good to watch with family but are still enjoyable.
You fools. Most of the movies you listed aren't even in the theatre's anymore. Three good, clean movies i've seen recently are Big Fish, Master and Commander, and Last Samurai. I would go with Big Fish as there is not much fighting involved.
I have literally seen this movie at least 50 times. My favorite lines follow: Patrick Bateman: Sabrina, don't just stare at it. Eat it. Patrick Bateman: I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip. Bateman: I had a shower...and some sorbet
